Best Hamburger Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
My husband and I really enjoyed this burger. We loved the complexity of the flavor it had...much more interesting than just your usual burger. We just topped ours with mayo, fresh ripe tomatoes, and a couple pickles. I felt that too many toppings would have detracted from the nice blend of flavors the patty had. This will be my go-to burger recipe from now on. Thanks!

Banana Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
All around, I enjoy unique things in life...and this would classify as a unique cookie experience in my book. Cookies came out just as recipe described -- somewhat chewy cake-like texture with a nice balance of banana and chocolate flavor. I didn't have any shortening on hand so i used vegetable oil instead. No problem there. Being that these do NOT flatten at all while baking, it is vital that you flatten them beforehand or you will end up with cookie "mountains". Thank you for an interesting alternative to the traditional chocolate chip cookie.

Coconut Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: May 26, 2011
The only reason I gave this cake four stars is because mine came out a bit too crumbly...but I feel that may have been due to chef error as opposed to recipe error. :) Also, I wasn't able to find coconut extract at the supermarket so I used "buko pandan' extract (I live in the Philippines) and even though the cake was green it was delicious!!!! This might be something for Filipino chefs to consider.

Chocolate Cupcakes with Caramel Frosting

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
I unfortunately did not realize I was out of jelly until after i started making these. But i figured I would try them anyway. In appearance, they came out just beautifully...nice mound on the top, perfect texture....BUT in taste they were definitely missing something. THE JELLY IS NEEDED (in my opinion)I will try these again after i re-stock my jelly to compare with the first batch. Incidently, my son gobbled them all up so they were just fine for him. I did not make the frosting so can't comment, instead I sprinkled mini chocolate chips on the tops.

Surprise Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2011
I'm not a very proficient baker so I was a bit nervous about trying this cake... but it turned out just beautifully! A moist cake with wonderful rich flavor. The only change I made was to use coffee instead of water (as suggested by another reviewer). I made the icing exactly as stated and it also turned out nicely. I think the next time I will use a different type of icing just for variety's sake. This is a must try for all chocolate cake lovers.

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
This is a great recipe. I made these for a Christmas family gathering and everyone loved them. However, I made one adjustment (not intentionally). The store was out of white chocolate chips, so I substituted butterscotch chips. It turned out to be a successful experiment (whew!) I took another's advice and baked them for 9 minutes at 350 degrees... Perfect!

Restaurant-Style Potato Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2010
I needed a quick potato salad for a family gathering and came across this recipe. After hearing all the great reviews I just had to give it a try. And I must say it was terrific!!! I doubled the recipe with just a couple changes. I used regular vinegar (no white wine available) and left out the pimento (didn't have any). I also used the "mini" white potatoes and left the skin on because I like the texture of the skin. I made sure to prepare it a day before the event so that the flavors would really have time to blend together. Everybody loved it and went back for seconds (or thirds!) I will surely be making this again. Thanks for the great recipe!

All American Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
I loved this!!!! I wanted to make a yummy but easy pie for Thanksgiving, and I came across this recipe. Unfortunately I didn't have a pie pan, so I just layered the ingredients...crust-apple mixture-topping...into one of my baking dishes. I took one's advice and doubled the topping mixture to make it extra thick and crumbly. It turned out beautifully! I served it with French Vanilla ice cream to make it even more decadent. It was a huge hit at the Thanksgiving table. Thanks!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
I made this for a family gathering recently, and they all loved it! I did make a few minor adjustments to the original recipe. I sauteed the onions and one finely chopped red bell pepper (mostly for some extra color) in the butter before adding the other ingredients. I also stirred some additional shredded cheese into the bean mixture before transferring it to the baking dish. I loved the added crunch that the cracker topping gave the dish. This one is definitely a keeper. Thanks!

Mango Topping

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
I came across this recipe while searching for a "strawberry shortcake" substitute. I put this topping over a slice of pound cake, and my family LOVED it! This recipe has so many possible applications, and I can't wait to explore them all. Thanks for a quick and easy recipe.
