Pasta e Fagioli ala Weeble

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2014
This is a wonderful soup, and comes together quickly and easily. I used the Roman beans (found them in the Goya section) as per the recipe, and made everything else as written. The only thing I changed was to stir some fresh spinach into the finished soup until it wilted. Fantastic---served with garlic bread this is a perfect meal for a cold / damp weeknight! Thanks!!

Cranberry Almond Biscotti

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2011
i have tried several biscotti recipes from this site with varying degrees of success (from dismal failure to kind of edible) but these are the business! they are easy to make, delicious to eat, and turn out like a proper biscotti! i substituted 3/4 cup of Splenda for sugar, and added 5 drops of Almond Oil in addition to the almond extract---they are terrific! thank you for a wonderful recipe!!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
these are wonderful...i have made these twice now; the first time was a bit fraught, and i had to add some milk to get the dough to come together---i made the first batch with regular sugar, and tonight i've made the second batch with Splenda (again needing a little milk) and they are brilliant! they are light, sweet, delightful, and rise beautifully...only wish i could find some clotted Devonshire cream to have with them (Marscarpone cheese is a close but inferior substitute)---thank you!!! My husband, who is from England, said his aunt, a lifelong member of the Women's Institute would be proud to serve them :) High praise indeed!!!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: May 18, 2011
the flavor of these burgers is phenomenally good---plenty of spice, a little heat, loads of taste! mine came out a bit floppy, but i think that was because i was conservative with the bread crumbs; next time i will add more to achieve a firmer burger---thank you for this recipe!!

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2011
this got top marks at my house---my husband is English and loves his "savoury pies"; he's been a little homesick this week so i baked this for him and he raved! i'll be making this again, and i won't wait until he's feeling homesick! thank you!!!

Italian Bread Using a Bread Machine

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011

Indian Chickpeas

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
i loved this, my husband less so, but his only criticism was that it had too many chickpeas in it...so take from that what you will! the flavour was lovely, and mashing up a few of the chickpeas thickened the sauce beautifully. I served this as an accompaniment to Saag Paneer (Spinach and Cheese Curd) with homemade naan bread---it was terrific! thank you!

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

this turned out fantastic, even using Splenda and fat-free cream cheese! my first attempt at cheesecake and even my husband (notoriously anti-dessert) loved it! yay! and thanks!!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
very very moist meat, and loads of juice/water in the pan for gravy...i forgot to buy dry minced onion, so i peeled a large yellow onion and tucked it into the cavity---my most successful turkey to date! thanks!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
came out great, but i wouldn't follow another reviewer's advice to use a food processor to slice the apples again, or at least not if you have a cheap food processor like mine! the apples got sliced too thin, and i ended up with textured apple sauce with fantastic crumble topping...still, it is delicious and i will definitely make it again!

Escarole and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
this was so incredibly good i can hardly find words for it! i only changed it slightly, and used vegetable stock (i'm vegetarian), and only used 3 cups (i like stuff like this thick and stodgy)---it was delicious, and filling; this will be a once-a-week dish for me!!! thank you so much!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2010
great, great, great, great, great! this was my first time cooking ribs and they came out, well, great! i followed other suggestions and used 2 cups BBQ sauce, 1 cup chili sauce, a whole lot of tabasco, and added a tsp of black pepper, and a good shot of Frank's Red Hot sauce for a little more tang---they were a smash hit; the meat fell off the bone, and was terrific for sandwiches for the rest of the week (altho the sauce is hard to get out of my husband's work shirts!!)---thank you so much!

Mom's Ginger Snaps

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
these are lovely! i used Splenda Brown Sugar, canola oil, and EggBeaters, and substituted 1 cup of the allpurpose flour for a cup of whole wheat flour---they came out great!! however, i wouldn't call these "ginger snaps"; they are more a cross between gingerbread and a molasses cookie to me...not complaining, mind you---they are great!! thank you!!
