About this Cook
I'm lucky to come from a big family that enjoys playing games and cards and of course, EAT & DRINK while doing so! I'm also lucky that my friends have wonderful families and there's no shortage of sharing recipes at our get togethers. I love to motorcycle; I'm on my fifth bike and have over 139,000 miles under my belt. My husband & I ride our cycles to Sturgis every year and living in FLA lets us attend Bikeweek/Biketoberfest. I just started fishing and LOVE IT. Almost as much as I LOVE being the Midwest President of the RLSFCA (Robert L. Scott Fan Club Association)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook with wine (sometimes I even put it in the food)! My favorite things to cook are the tried and true recipes I get from my friends, like Merridee's Chicken Piccatta and Susan's Peach Cobbler YUM! After living 40+ yrs in Minnesota, I finally traveled south and was introduced to blackeyed peas, grits, collard greens, cornbread, and since then I love to cook these and more.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up in the 50's, my dad worked and my mom was the homemaker. Our family of 7 sat down to suppers of meat, potato, veggie and milk or kool-aid. Thanksgiving was a turkey and Christmas was a ham. Pretty typical/traditional. Now in my 50's, I still cook a traditional turkey w/ stuffing made from scratch like my mom.
My cooking triumphs
DESSERTS and APPETIZERS. I get asked to bring either an appetizer or a dessert to parties. I have a killer brownie recipe and my girlfriend's bruschetta that are party favs!
My cooking tragedies
My ONLY tragedy is when I overcook chicken ..... by God I'm gonna kill all that salmonella before it gets me! (I'm getting better at this, I think my last 3 lb bird had at least 1/8 tsp of juice left)

Fish Chowder II
I fried 3 strips of bacon in my 5 qt dutch oven. I put the bacon in the freezer for another day. I drained all but 1 tblsp of the bacon grease and sauted the onion and potatoes in the same kettle (no water at all). Stir often to get the bacon bits off the bottom for lots of flavor. Then I added the creamed corn, 2-1/2 C Skim Milk and 1 C Half & Half. Added my fish, S&P, (black pepper and lots of it), cayenne pepper, dried dill weed and 2 tblsp butter at the end. DELISH!!!
