Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2007
This was the first soup I ever made. I volunteered to make it as the soup of the day at the bar & grill where I bartend, since most everyone participates in the soup rotation. Anyway, I used only corn starch -- no roux -- and I wish I would have, because it could have been a little thicker. Next time I will also put a bunch of cheese in it while it is cooking. I give it five stars because I was told that it quickly sold out and everybody liked it.

Grand Margarita

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2007
Fresh lime juice is the secret. I disagree with the bartender who recommends Cuervo -- I've slowly come to believe that the people who order Patron silver margaritas are not idiots wasting fine tequila. It's great for margaritas. A cheaper alternative might be Sauva Hornitos. My personal favorite is Herradura, but like the reviewer who is a restaurant owner and bartender, it can be a waste. Good tequila is like good wine, and you don't have to slam it like a college kid to enjoy it.

The Best Meatloaf I've Ever Made

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2007
I followed the baking instructions exactly, but not the ingredient list. I added onion powder, garlic powder, left out the bread, and added something I learned from an old roomate: horseradish! While there is no accounting for taste (no such thing as 'too'spicy or 'too' many onions), the baking process seemed to be spot on, especially in regard to turning it up to 400.... thanks.

Country Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
I had a few cocktails before making this recipe and got a little fast and loose with the ingredients, but I will say this: what defines this recipe versus, say, crust less quiche or other breakfast casseroles, is the addition of the package of country gravy mix. The submitter of this recipe has offered what I would consider a very forgiving recipe -- I would never leave out the country gravy mix, though. I forgot the water. Didn't seem to affect it. Like most people here, I improvised with the cheese. I used 1 package of sausage, one packet of bacon, and 12 eggs. Not because I wanted to. I was tipsy. It still turned out great. Next time I will follow the recipe to a T. What drew me to it was the country gravy mix, and that, folks, is the secret to this recipe's much deserved high rating.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2007
This is the first sauce I have ever made, and I am a new cook -- as in, I had to look up the word "colander." It turned out better than what one gets in most restaurants. I will never buy sauce in a jar again.

This is not a margarita -- call it something else!

I've always made a pretty good meat loaf, and this was a good way to switch things up. Sounded weird, but it was good!@

Quick and Easy Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2007
Very easy! I used progresso italian bread crumbs and Kraft EXTRA SHARP cheddar cheese. If you like sharp cheese, you should consider using it on top of this.

Easy Broccoli Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
All I had was baby swiss, but the quiche still turned out great. I used the tip about pressing the cheese into the bottom of the pie crust, and I didn't have any water problems. It took a good 45-50 minutes at 375. I also added a few crispy strips of bacon.
