Sorta Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2013
My mother used to make cube steaks when I was a kid. I remember chewing and chewing and chewing and practically needing the heimlich maneuver when it came time to swallow. I don't know if it was notalgia or a momentary lapse in sanity that made me buy the dreaded meat at the store. But I did. I decided not to fry like mom did, and found this recipe to discover they should be slow cooked. The only addition for my dinner was I added portabella mushroom slices with the onions. It was amazing. Tender, tasty meat and a lovely brown gravy. I rate this 5 stars for simplicity, flavor, and I will use it often. Thanks for sharing!

Chocolate Pumpkin Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
I used this recipe as guide for what I had in mind. I wanted a pumpkin cake that tastes like pumpkin. So I followed this recipe exactly, but I used a white cake mix and added 2t. of pumpkin pie spice to the mix. I topped it with a homemade cream cheese frosting, crossed my fingers, and served it at a party. People raved, wanted to take pieces home, and my husband said, "you better write this one down, it's amazing!"

Seafood Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2010
This is an excellent recipe. I had been making seafood pasta salad using plain old mayo and thought it needed something. So glad I found this recipe! I followed it except I used seashell pasta and added a diced red pepper. I also recommend starting with a good fake crab (did I just say that? Yes, I did! I admit it, I love the stuff) Not all immitation seafoods are alike - I highly recommend the bulk immitation crab they sell at Sam's club.

Aunt Edith's Baked Pancake

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I try to reserve five star reviews for recipes that I think are worthy - recipes that go above and beyond the call of duty - recipes that are more than just tasty. This recipe gets 5 stars. Here's why. Last night the children hosted a sleepover.......EEK! Tired, crabby, and distraught that my coffee pot picked this morning to walk off the job, I was unprepared for the billion, "I'm hungry!" and "What's for breakfast?" 's that a room full of crazy kids would bring to my morning. Desperate, I turned to allrecpies and typed in the words, Easy and pancake. This is what I found. Throwing caution into the wind, I doubled the recipe and baked it in a glass lasagna pan. I decided, while it baked, sipping on tea, there's no way this recipe is going to be good. It can't be. Nothing good could be this easy. It came out like a big rectangular version of the photo. A hearty sprinkle of powdered sugar, I sliced it into large squares giving each child a nice chunk of the crusty edge and served it up with fresh berries, milk, and flavored syrups to drizzle. I'm thrilled to report it received rave reviews from all of my critics and a whopping 12 thumbs up! Thank you, Aunt Edith, for saving the day. I can hardly wait to try this very easy and impressive recipe on our next camping trip in a dutch oven!

Eggplant Tomato Bake

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
I followed the recipe exactly with one minor variation: I added some shredded mozzarella to the top layer. We all enjoyed it. Even my very very picky children enjoyed it. I will definitely make it again, however, I will substitute the ricotta with mozzarella - none of us are big fans of ricotta. Thanks for a great recipe!

Venison and Barbequed Bean Bake

We enjoyed this recipe. I made it as a meal but I think it is more suited as a hearty side dish than a meal.

Nutty Brown Rice Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2009
Like a lot of the other reviews, we added quite a bit more salad dressing than the recipe called for. I served it for guests and everyone liked it. I think the kidney beans and slivered almonds really made this unique. It is pretty, healthy, has a great texture, and tastes really good, too. Will make again - Thanks for the recipe!

Bloody Mary Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
We really enjoyed this Bloody Mary Mix - really loved the addition of the horseradish. We thought it needed more spice, so added quite a bit of Scorpion Sting hot sauce, rubbed the rim of the glass with salt and pepper, and garnished with celery and olives. Yum!

Clark's Quiche

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
I decided to prepare this Quiche for a dinner party despite the fact that I had never tried it - crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. It was wonderful. All guests raved and asked for the recipe. I made a few substitutions that worked out great: I used fresh spinich instead of frozen (put into the recipe raw), portabella mushrooms, raw diced green onion with tops and fresh parsley. I omitted the ham completely, and pre-baked the pie crusts for 10 minutes before adding the filling. It was heavenly. I will use this recipe again and again. Thanks, Clark!

Party Punch IX

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
This was a huge hit at Thanksgiving! Even the adults - bottle of rum stashed up high - loved it. We left it out all day in a punchbowl and it stayed slurpie consistency for the entire party. I'm going to make it again this weekend for my sons birthday party. Just for kicks, I'm gonna make it with pineapple jello - get it? yellow slush? What a hoot! Thanks for the great recipe!

Mock Coconut Pie (Spaghetti Squash Pie)

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
I thought this recipe was a joke - with a bunch of pre-teen kids giggling at the thought of somebody actually preparing it and serving it to their family. But I had some spaghetti squash left over from dinner and figured, what the heck. What do you know, it's delicious. I will definitely make this again and pass it along to my friends. Thanks for a fun AND tasty quirky dish!

Teri's Dinner in a Pumpkin

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2007
This was such a fun recipe and really unique to serve. We ate it, but the leftovers aren't looking so appealing today. Not a good sign. I recommend adding the pumpkin pie spice gradually, tasting to see when enough is enough - I think it overpowered the dish. If I make it again, I'll omit it completely and cut the recipe in half.

Sauteed Corn on the Cob With Chili-Lime-Cilantro Spread

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2007
I'm a big fan of cilantro, so was excited to find this recipe and it was fabulous! I made it for a dinner party and used frozen corn niblets for simplicity. I steamed the corn, then quickly browned the kernals in a frying pan and added a spoonful of this sauce on top. It outshined even the main course and every guest raved about it. I highly recommend this recipe!
