Born and raised in New Orleans and proud to call it home; one grandaughter who is the light of my life
My favorite things to cook
Anything cajun or creole; Anything with seafood especially shrimp; chicken anything; pasta; anything cajun, creole and mexican; bread pudding; any dessert with fruit; slow cooker beef pot roast so I can make roast beef poboys for dinner the next day; baked macaroni and cheese; fried chicken like my mother used to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Dirty rice; deep fried turkey; my sister's sweet potato crunch, oyster patties, homemade fudge and rum cake; my mother's fried chicken; my dad's jelly biscuits.
My cooking triumphs
I make my own olive salad (my dad's recipe) for muffalatas. I get the bread from a local deli chain and make my own muffalatas for Mardi Gras or sometimes just because my husband and I want one to share for dinner. I also make my own Hurricanes from scratch using passion fruit juice and other juices and flavored rums. I've been told they are better than the originals at Pat O'Brien's in the French Quarter.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I cooked Thanksgiving dinner, I left the gizzard packet in the turkey and didn't realize it until we carved into the back of it. They were still in the butcher paper and were moist but we threw them away and no one got sick so....
