Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
Really nice, quick recipe. I sprinkled a bit of cinnamon over the jam before adding the crumb topping. I didn't bother lining the pan with foil and I had no problems removing the bars.

Kheer (Rice Pudding)

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
I first made this about 3 years ago and am finally getting around to reviewing it. This is a great recipe. I haven't had authentic Kheer, but this is great. It is nice and creamy and not too sweet. A great combination of flavours. It's great warm and just as good cold. It sets when it cools. Now, when I want rice pudding, this is what I make. The rice to liquid ratio in this recipe is just fine. Don't change a thing.

Autumn Apple Tart

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
This tart is beautiful and delicious! A perfect autumn treat. The crust is rich and buttery and is a great contrast to the tart, yet sweet and spicy apples on top. The apples and topping basically caramelize while baking and the final result is mouthwatering! I used 6 medium apples and had a lot left over (maybe 3-4 would have been enough), but perhaps I didn't layer them thickly enough. UPDATE: 4th year in a row making this, it's become an autumn fixture. Soooo good!

Plum Cake

How about changing the name to DISAPPEARING Plum Cake?!? This always disappears the same day I bake it. Delicious.

Chimichurri Sauce

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
I am addicted to this sauce! I like it on everything! I've used where I usually use pesto. Yum!

Tangy Sliced Pork Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
Yum! Only two changes - cooked a sliced onion in the butter and sliced the pork very thinly (almost shaved). Next time I'll double the sauce. Great way to add some life to leftover pork.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2008
This was pretty tasty. I was tired of chicken, so I tried it with pork chops- very good. I rubbed the pork with the spices first. Next, mixed the oil, lime juice, melted butter and second amount of garlic powder in a glass 9x9 baking pan, added the pork, coating both sides in the sauce, covered the pan with foil and baked for 30 minutes. The pork was very tender and the flavour had just the right balance between tangy and spicy. This would be excellent on the grill - pork or chicken and vegetable kabobs in this mixture of spices and the lime/garlic/butter basting sauce. Excellent recipe. UPDATE: Couldn't get limes at the store and used lemon juice instead. Still pretty tasty. I've made this many times and it always gets favourable reviews.

Calabacitas

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
Use the freshest vegetables you can for this recipe, as those are the flavours that really come through. This was a nice, cooling, satisfying side dish for a fajita meal. I will definitely make it again with garden fresh zucchini and corn.

Carne Guisada II

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
Easy to make, just need to keep an eye on it and top it off with water from time to time. I used only 3 tbsp of tomato paste. Didn't need to add the cornstarch and I shredded the beef. Made a great filling for soft tacos. Will be making this again and will probably double the recipe the next time.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2010
This is yummy! First time making lemon meringue pie and am very satisfied with the results. I reduced the sugar in the custard to 1/2 cup because I like things tart, but other than that I stuck to the recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Tuscan Pork Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
Easy and tasty. The rub for this is great, although not everyone may enjoy the fennel. I made a paste out of the rub ingredients with my mortar and pestle. The roast was really moist and flavourful. I tented it with aluminum foil for 20 minutes before slicing it. It paired well with some lemon and olive oil roasted potatoes from another site. I would definitely make this again.

Spooky Witches' Fingers

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
A fun recipe. I used raspberry jam to stick the almonds on the cookies before baking them with good results. I also made a small indent at the 'severed' end of the finger and put some raspberry jam there. The seeds in the jam looked kind of maggoty :). I liked the not-too-sugary, buttery taste of these cookies. Thanks for sharing.

Chicago Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
Thanks for a good spinach dip that doesn't use a soup mix. I made a few additions to give it a little more tang - 2 cloves of garlic and a teaspoon of dijon mustard.

Crumb-Topped Rhubarb

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
The topping is great for any fruit combination. I think the pan size given in the recipe is off. No way is 3 cups of fruit going to cover a 12x8. I made it with 2 cups of frozen rhubarb and 2 cups of frozen strawberries in a 9x9 and the fruit layer was still pretty thin. Will use this as my regular fruit crisp recipe, but increase the amount of fruit.

Premium Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
Excellent. The final product had a chewy, crispy crust that was thin in the middle and a little thicker around the edge. I made a double recipe using the sponge method. I had to put the dough in the fridge during rising to slow it down a little so that it wasn't ready before I was. Friends were over for pizza and they all commented on the crust. I will definitely use this recipe again. Thanks! UPDATE: I have made this numerous times now and it never fails me and never fails to get rave reviews along the lines of "Wow - this is the best pizza I've ever had." THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!

Taylor's Piroshki

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
A nice accompaniment to the Russian Potato and Mushroom soup from this site. A great marriage of savoury flavours in a tender bread pocket. I baked mine. I'm sure they're even better deep-fried. The dough was very nice! Very tender. I made half the batch with a sauerkraut/Hungarian paprika sausage mixture for variety. This dough is the perfect wrapper for whatever savoury filling one might like to put in it, authentic or not.

Greek Lentil Soup (Fakes)

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Lovely! This is a great combination of flavours and the vinegar accents ties all of the flavours together wonderfully. Very easy to make. Great recipe as is. UPDATE: In my opinion, this soup is best when it's fresh and all of the subtle flavours are still distinct and fresh. It's still good the day after, but it tasted best right after cooking.

Sauceless Garden Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
Excellent variation on the usual lasagna. I also like that it's only a 9x9 - great for singles and smaller households. I had no problems with the no-cook noodles. This lasagna was very juicy so I followed the reccommendations of other reviewers and let it sit for 15+ minutes. The balsamic vinegar is great with these ingredients.
