Cherry Nut Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
I've been making this bread every year around Christmas time for about 5 years now. I can't believe I haven't rated or reviewed it yet! Anyway, this is fabulous, it's moist, sweet, and so delicious! My whole family loves it, it's one of those things I have to make every year, if I don't then I really hear about it. It's an easy recipe, although it's a bit time consuming, but so worth it in my opinion. I do sub regular 2% milk for the buttermilk, but other than that I follow the recipe exactly.

Barbeque Beef Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
Fabulous recipe, quick and easy to make and delicious to eat! I did use more BBQ sauce and less cornbread just like most everyone else. I also added more spice to the meat & sauce. (I used garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, & black pepper.) My husband and I loved this and so did most of my kids. (The only one who didn't like it said it was too spicy.) I will definitely be making this again and often!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies from Heaven

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
In my opinion alone this is a 4 star recipe, but because of my family I went with 5. All four kids loved these and my husband absolutely adored them. He is who I made the cookies for in the first place, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are his favorite, so I guess it's fair to go with his rating and not mine. I did use less flour and more peanut butter, 2 1/2 flour and 1 1/4 peanut butter like the other reviewers suggested. I think the peanut butter taste was just right this way. The cookies are a bit dry, I think that's why I only rate them 4 stars. They are soft, though, not hard or crumbly. The dough is too yummy, much better then the cookie in my opinion. I had a hard time resisting the urge to gobble it up when rolling the cookies. All in all, it’s a great recipe that I will make again.

Thighs on Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
I wasn't sure about trying this, the reviews are all so mixed it made me nervous. However, I'm always on the look out for dairy free recipes since dairy makes my husband sick. I made a few changes based on the reviews I read. I started by seasoning the chicken with some Lawry's seasoned salt and then browning them in a skillet with a bit of margarine, setting them aside when golden brown. Before making the rice mix I sautéed the onions in the same skillet and added 6 cloves minced garlic and about 1 ½ cups of chopped fresh portobello mushrooms. I added 1 TBS of original flavor Mrs. Dash to the rice mix and sprinkled some dried parsley over the chicken after it was all put together. I cooked it uncovered and after 45 minutes the chicken was cooked perfectly. The rice cooked, but didn't seem to cook evenly. It was a bit overcooked and mushy in places. That might've been because I doubled the recipe and used a bigger baking dish. Anyway, it got mixed reviews from my family when I served it last night. One of my kids loved the chicken but hated the rice, my husband thought it was all just okay, my 3 other kids liked it but didn't love it, and I didn't care for the chicken but I really liked the flavor of the rice. I think I will try this again, maybe tweak it a bit more. I think I will add more Mrs. Dash, 2 or even 3 TBS instead of just one, and maybe some other spices. I thought the rice was good but would be even better with more spice.

Pumpkin Fluff Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2007
I tried this for Thanksgiving and it was a big hit. My husband told me I don't have to make pumpkin pie any more for Thanksgiving, just this dip! I did add more spice; I think it was one half teaspoon extra pumpkin pie spice and one teaspoon of cinnamon. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I don't think that the pumpkin flavor was over powered by the Cool Whip and pudding, but maybe that is a matter of taste. I thought that it was just enough pumpkin flavor, not too strong. To those who complained about the texture, I think that improves after refrigeration. So if you liked the taste but not the texture and you ate it right after mixing, try making it ahead and keeping it in the fridge. I served it with vanilla wafers and honey graham cracker sticks for dipping, most people preferred the graham sticks.

Lisa's Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2007
I made this for Thanksgiving and it was the hit of the dessert table. Everyone raved over it, with two people telling me it was the best chocolate cake they ever had! It was also the first dessert to disappear, so I know everyone loved it. I followed the recipe exactly, but after the cake cooled I melted a can of ready made chocolate fudge frosting and drizzled the top of the cake with it, then sprinkled mini chocolate chips on the glaze. It looked as good as it tasted! I think this is going to be my new standard recipe when I want to make a chocolate dessert.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
Great recipe! After reading the reviews I chose to use two 9x13 pans since I was looking for thicker bars. My cooking time was around 23 minutes. That’s all I changed, the recipe itself I followed exactly. The bars were nice and soft, a little bit chewy. Very yummy! What I especially loved about these was the convenience of sticking the pans in the oven and being done. It is much faster than trying to make cookies. If you need to make cookies but are pressed for time, this is the recipe to use! Also, let me say again that these were delicious. My husband and kids loved these! Definitely a keeper for my recipe box!

Water Chestnuts Wrapped in Bacon

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
My family really liked these. One of my daughters loved them so much she requested them for her birthday! They are a little time consuming, but we think it's worth it. They are great little crunchy snacks with wonderful flavor. I followed the recipe exactly, but after reading the comments I think I might try using some brown sugar like suggested, that sounds even yummier!

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
Great recipe! It was quick and easy, with great results. The bread is nice and moist, sweet but not too sweet. The first time I made this I followed the recipe exactly and it's great as is. The second time, though, I made a change that I thought worked great. I added a handful of regular oats to the batter. The first time I made the bread I thought the bread didn't have quite enough oats.

Cranberry Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
I started these cookies last night only to find that I didn't have dried cranberries like I thought I did. I made them anyway, only with no cranberries and I used cinnamon chips instead of white chocolate, adding a few more chips to make up for no cranberries. They were spectacular cookies! Not too sweet, nice and chewy with a bit of crisp to the edges, so good! I can't wait to try them with cranberries, I bet they will be wonderful! Great recipe, I will definitely be adding these to my "must bake for Christmas" list!

Cracker Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
I tried this last night because it sounded easy to make and I had all ingredients that I needed in my pantry and fridge. My husband and I thought these were good, but my kids thought they were wonderful. Because my kids loved them, and because they were very simple to make I'm giving this 5 stars. If it was at all difficult I would've given only 4. It is super easy, though, and has an interesting taste, kind of sweet/salty/buttery. (I did make a few changes. I added a bit of vanilla to the sugar, omitted the nuts because some of my kids don't care for nuts, and I used margarine instead of butter because my husband has allergies to milk.)

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2006
This is spectacular! We all loved it, my husband and I and my 4 kids. Just perfect, I made no changes to the recipe, it's so good just the way it is. The chicken was tender and fell apart as I removed it from the slow cooker, and it was so delicious!

Diego's Special Beef Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2006
We really liked this stew; my husband especially loved it and said it was one of the best beef stews he's ever eaten. I did make a few changes. I didn't put any wine in, and the second time I made I used half the thyme the recipe called for. The first time I made it we all thought the thyme flavor was a bit overpowering, so we liked it better with less. Still, a five star recipe!

Roast Pork with Maple and Mustard Glaze

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2005
Absolutely delicious! I made no changes to the recipe, except I did not use real maple syrup. I thought that the sauce was wonderful just using maple flavored syrup. My whole family loved it, even all four kids. I will definitely make this again, it was a big hit!

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2003
My mother used to make fudge every Christmas, and although I wanted to carry on that tradition the traditional fudge recipes were all so hard, and never seemed to turn out well. I tried this recipe last year, and not only was it quick and super easy, the fudge tasted spectacular! I made 3 kinds (just like Mom!), chocolate fudge with nuts, chocolate mint fudge (added mint extract) and butterscotch fudge with pecans (used butterscotch chips instead of chocolate). My family loved all three kinds, but the butterscotch was rated the best. Thank you Kelly for sharing this recipe! Now I can carry on the tradition of delicious fudge for Christmas.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2003
This chili is wonderful! I was looking for a recipe for chili that would be as good as Wendy's chili, this chili doesn't taste exactly the same, but it is just as good. It is very easy to make, takes very little time to prepare, and it's so super delicious! I did tweak the recipe a bit, I used crushed tomatoes instead of tomato sauce, and I used more than the recipe called for. I also increased the meat a little and threw in a can of pinto beans in addition to the light and dark kidney beans, and I added a little cayenne pepper to spice it up a little more.

Grandma's Homemade Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2002
This is the best banana bread I have ever eaten. My husband loves it, and asks for it often. He says all other banana bread just does not taste as good, I agree. This banana bread is moist and flavorful, not too sweet. The recipe is perfect.

Deep Dark Chocolate Cake

5 Minute Candy Bar Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2002
I made this for Thanksgiving using 1 layer of vanilla pudding mixed with chopped Reese's Miniatures and 1 layer of plain chocolate pudding. It was so quick and easy, and it turned out pretty rich but very delicious. It was one of the first pies to be finished, people were passing up the traditional pumpkin and apple pies for this one. I will definitely make this again, and will have fun experimenting with different pudding flavors and candy.
