About this Cook
Busy mom to a teenager who has autism and Tourette's. I also have full custody of my granddaughter. My house is like a zoo, but it is fun and an organized zoo! I work full time, and have been with my Department for 19 years. Since January 2012 I have been on the South Beach diet and am now learning how to bake with whole wheat and sugar substitute. It has been an amazing journey!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE making meatloaf and all kinds of chicken dishes. I am the "family" cook for get togethers so I usually search for something with good reviews and make things that everyone likes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My gram was from the south, so Southern and home-cooked comfort foods are my favorite! I use a lot of the things that my gram made but because of healthy eating habits, I have started to make my own cooking traditions.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
I have yet to figure out why this pie has such high ratings. It has no spices in it and lacks flavor. It is awful! It was a waste of great ingredients! Apple pie should have spices in it, and I should have known better when I thought I should try this! NEVER AGAIN! YUK!

Ham Cake-ettes
I don't like leaving such a negative review, but I followed this recipe exactly and we did NOT care for these at all. They were bland and not what we expected. Won't be making these again. Sorry.

Sandy's Homemade Broccoli and Cheddar Soup
I did tweak this recipe and then it made it 5 stars! I used more onion and more carrots. I took some chicken stock and mixed it in with cream cheese to make it thick and creamy in place of using half and half. I used seriously sharp cheddar cheese and super sharp cheddar cheese and when the soup was done I pureed part of it to make a thick and creamy soup. This was an excellent soup with my changes!
