Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
Delicious. Followed reviews and used 3 large sweet potatoes, increased brown sugar to 1 tablespoon, reduced paprika to 1 teaspoon. My family LOVED it. Said it was like a savory, spicy dessert. :)

Foolproof Rib Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
Amazing. I won't repeat everything other reviewers said but if you do follow the recipe exactly (plus add a little fresh rosemary to the spice rub) you will be blown away. My guests said it was the best beef they've ever tasted and then proceeded to fight over every last bite of the entire 5 lb roast. My new special occasion go-to. Thank you SO much for sharing!

Proper English Cottage Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
delicious! i adjusted this slightly based on other reviewers comments but i think it's an excellent recipe. i increased the beef to 1.5 lbs, reduced the cinnamon, doubled the "italian seasoning", subbed ketchup for tomato paste, threw in some worchestershire, and made the potatoes like i would make basic mashed. perfect for a cold wintry night - my family loved it!! thank you :)

Cheddar Cabbage Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
everyone in my family LOVED this! it was so delicious despite the unexpected combinations! i didn't have corn flakes so i actually used Corn Chex and it was awesome - that is a substitution i plan to keep. i also reduced the butter and found it didn't affect the taste. a definite keeper.....

Banana Pudding with Meringue

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
Followed recipe exactly... it didn't turn out so well. The pudding was soupy and it was sickeningly sweet. I will not make this again, it was inedible.

Tuna Garden Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
i thought this was really great as an easy, fast weeknight meal. i doubled the tuna and kale (we love both) and subbed parmesan for the mozzarella. very good and very adaptable, especially in terms of making it healthy/lo-fat. thanks!

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
What a great way to use the random leftovers in the fridge! I happened to have shrimp and (fake) lobster from another recipe so I threw it in with some chopped broccoli, peppers, onions, carrots, and peas and it was awesome! This is definitely a five star recipe because it is so easy and flexible:)

The hands down favorite at our Fat Tuesday celebration! Delicious...it's a time commitment, but like all good things, so worth it. Didn't make one change:)

Sausage Smothered in Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
So good! This was an incredibly easy meal to put together on a busy weekday night...to make it healthier I did use turkey kielbasa (delicious) but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I think it tasted even better - more sweet, less vinegary - the next day when we fought over the leftovers! And don't skip the dijon mustard and pickle! Great cold weather food:)

Mean Woman Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
Love it! I did make a few slight adjustments to suit our tastes - we wanted warm, spicy pasta so I subbed 2 cans of diced tomatoes for the chopped, reduced the oil, increased the pepperoncini and added red pepper flakes and chunks of pepperoni for extra heat...but I must say the recipe is also perfect as-is! Rave reviews - I will be making this again soon:)

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

If you need a filling breakfast option (or even a healthy dessert), this smoothie is excellent! I omitted the honey completely and used vanilla soymilk, all natural organic peanut butter, and a frozen banana. It was so delicious!! Thanks for posting!

Caribbean Sweet Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2007
Fabulous!! This is such a delicious, unusual salad - a perfect compliment to anything spicy. I pretty much doubled the dressing because the potatoes just soak it up. Also, we added extra lime juice and more peanuts (they just give it a great rich flavor)AND some fresh chopped jicama for crunch and sweetness! Thanks for the recipe, we will make it again, for sure!!!

Joy's Green Banana Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2007
If you are up for something different that blends several unqiue flavors quite well, give this salad a try! So good! 20 minutes worked for my fairly unripe bananas (kind of hard to find perfectly green ones), but make sure they cool all the way before mixing everything together or they can get mushy. When I make it again, I think I will cut the green peppers into chunks instead of rings and put a little more sugar in - the recipe calls for 1 teaspooon, but I would use 2 next time because the vinegar is so tangy. I also used real crabmeat, and next time I think I would use artificial because the subtle taste of the real thing got lost in all of the other flavors. Just some thoughts on how I might adjust it - but I would definitely make it again! Delicious and perfect for summer!! Thanks!

Avocado Shrimp Ceviche-Estillo Sarita

Reviewed: May 21, 2007
Excellent! ...But other reviews were correct: expect to let it "cook" for more than 5 minutes - I was rushed for time so I first had to briefly sautee the shrimp and then chill. Don't leave out the avocados; they really complement the other flavors. We ate this on plantain chips, store-bought tostadas, and soft tortillas with cold beer and limes and it made a perfect warm weather pinic meal, then heated the leftovers for soup! Awesome dish - thanks!!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2007
Coming from a family of fish purists - tilapia being one of our favorites - I worried that this recipe would be gilding the lily. Instead, everyone felt that the topping really did enhance, rather than detract from, the naturally delicious flavor of the fish. This recipe is perfect for tweaking and experimentation and I look forward trying some different ingredients with it!! Thanks for the recipe!
