Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2010
I've always been intimidated to make scones, but this recipe is surprisingly easy! The flavor isn't bad as-is, but there's definitely room to improvise. The texture, however, was a little too moist for my liking.

White Chili with Ground Turkey

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
I really didn't like the flavor of this chili. I made it as written. The chili, itself, really comes together well, but there's just something about the flavor that I didn't like...I'm not sure if it's the cinnamon/cheese combo.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
Wow...This is easily the best whole wheat bread I've ever made. Usually, when I attempt a whole wheat recipe, the bread inevitably comes out really dense, and well, not good. This bread, however, is really light and soft with a slightly crispy crust. The flavor is a bit sweet, though, a lot like Roman Meal brand, but that can be adjusted.

Italian Pinwheel Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
These are excellent. The outside is a little crispy, while the inside is soft and tender. Even without the herb/butter mixture, this dough would make great rolls!

Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
This is amazing! I added some crumbled bacon, otherwise made exactly as stated. The whole thing came together in less than 20 minutes.

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
I really did not like these...I thought the mayo gave them a an off flavor. I guess I'm just used to scalloped potatoes made with heavy cream or milk.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
This is really good! I used ground turkey and added some worcestershire sauce. I didn't think it needed salt...also, I found it wasn't really necessary to simmer the mixture for 30 minutes.

Greek Lemon Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
I really wanted to like this, but I couldn't even finish my bowl. It tasted too egg-y to me even though I did my best to temper it.

Fabulous Oatmeal-Bran Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
I would really give this 4.5 stars if I could...It's super moist but just too sweet for me. That's an easy fix, though, so I will probably make these again. I added a chopped up pear to the batter, and made muffins.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
These are good...they're not the best pumpkin muffins I've had because they're a little bland, but they're still worth making because it's a really fast and easy recipe to throw together. They are moist, though, and I'm sure the flavor would be pretty easy to spruce up.

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
I was nervous to make these because a) I don't have a bread machine and b) I always have a terrible time with yeast breads....these, however, turned out great, much to my surprise! I mixed everthing in my Kitchenaid with a dough hook for about 8 minutes, and I used fast-acting yeast, so there was no need for me to proof. I wasn't too sure about how long I should let the dough rise, so I let it rest for about an hour, and it pretty much tripled in size (I have a warm kitchen, though). After that, I followed the directions as stated. I will definitely be making these again!

Jif® Peanut Butter Granola

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
This is delicious! I love being able to make my own granola without any preservatives. I love the peanut butter/honey combo. The recipe does, indeed, need 4 cups of oats and not 1. I halved the recipe, and it still yielded about 3 1/2 cups.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
I think this has a lot of potential. I think the tomato overwhelmed the coconut flavor. I will definitely make this again, but I'll scale back on the tomato sauce just a bit.

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2010
This is a really great recipe...I love the flavors. I boiled my orzo in chicken broth to give it a little extra flavor, and I also squirted some lemon juice over it.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I love this recipe!! I actually threw everything for the filling into my slow cooker for 8 hours. The flavor is great! I will definitely make this again and again.

Fresh Pear Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I'm giving this four stars because I found the batter to be way too thick. It was more like cookie dough. That being said, I added about 1/2 cup milk, which did the trick. The cake baked beautifully and tasted great.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This tasted great, but I felt the directions are a bit unclear...how thick is thick? I removed the mixture from the heat as soon as it got thick, but then it never completely set up. It was definitely runny, even after letting it cool completely. I'm wondering if I had kept it on the stove a little bit longer if it would have gotten thicker...I'm not sure. I poured it on the cake, anyway but had to keep it refrigerated.

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
I was debating whether I should make this because I wasn't sure if I would like the flavor combo. I made it, and I'm so glad I did. The cinnamon/beef flavor is unique, but it somehow goes together really well.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I love these! They're good as is, but you can also play around with them...I've add mashed bananas and also used applesauce instead of oil. They also come out soft and moist.

Kiki's Borracho (Drunken) Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I wasn't really crazy about the flavor, but that's just because I'm not a huge fan of cooking with beer, but with that being said, everyone else loved this and thought the flavor was great.
