Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
A very forgiving recipe! We made this last night for a party, and everyone enjoyed it. (We made it last for an Easter gathering, with boisterous reviews.) Last night, one person switched from white wine to the Sangria and never went back! We made three changes because we think we are "Sangria Aficianados." We omitted the cherries and carbonated water, and added 1/2 cup Peach Schnapps, and substituted diet 7-Up for the water. Aside from the basic bones of this recipe (the wine, oranges, lemons, limes and specified liqours), many variation work. Apples and Pears work. We always add Brandy and Triple Sec and use 7-Up, but if something is not around or we run out, we find substitutes. I have friends who add dry fruit to their Sangria. (I think it is sweeter, but tasty. They used dried mango and pineapple.) This is really a great ice breaker at a party of friends or acquaintances.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
As an emergency "chief" for an injured family member, her husband, and young children, I had to find recipes that appealed to all - 2 weeks worth. This filled the bill. It was so fast, yet yummy, and everone loved this recipe (even the 2 1/2 year old). Double the sauce/gravy as everyone wanted more. I served it with baked potatoes, broccoli, and fruit salad.

Honey Pork with Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2003
I'm with other reviewers. This was bland and lackluster. I had to add more soy sauce to "kick it up just a notch," but would not make it again.

Best Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2002
This is relatively simple to make and very tasty. Don't care for zucchini so substituted fresh spinach. For my taste, I had to "kick it up a notch" by adding Worchestershire and Tobasco, but basically the recipe was the same. Some might be tempted to leave out the wine, but I think it adds a depth of flavor not duplicated by just using broth. It's a good soup.

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2002
I'm impressed! I agree. This is good. I changed some of it, but basically is same recipe. I used a seasoned rolled pork roast; I doubled the liquid, substituting beef broth for the water and added about 2 T. barbeque sauce. My husband now, just again, said "that was really great." It is really tangy, but whole family loved it.

Banana Bread V

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2002
"This is the best banana bread I have ever had!" That's what my husband said, and I agree. It is particularly good if you have just two large bananas that are "turning." Other recipes call for five and six bananas. I added pecans (had no walnuts), and it was delicious. Thank you Pat!

Chicken Eugene

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2002
Easy, easy, easy! This takes all of 15 minutes to prepare and place in the oven. My husband loved it, and I found it very good. Knowing that he would want more of the cream gravy, I doubled the liquid amounts. It went well with mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli. Note: I would wash the beef next time and use less of it.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2001
My husband really likes this dish. However, he wanted more sauce. So I make the recipe with three porkchops (there is just the two of us) and two cans of soup. I serve with a risotto.

BLT Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2000
I am not as enamored with this appetizer as others - including my husband who "...loved it." I found it a bit too salty. Maybe it was the brand of bacon I used...
