Okay, I made a bunch changes after reading the other reviews. I cut the sugar down to 1 1/2 cups, I only used about 3/4 of the package of gelatin, I used 2 teaspoons of vanilla, made three layers instead of two, I whipped the egg whites in at the end, and I used unsweetened fresh strawberry for the puree. I used the whipped cream cheese frosting from this site and added some strawberry puree to the frosting for the middle layers. With all these changes the cake was fabulous. Yeah, its still a more dense than fluffy cake but that's not always a bad thing. Mine was definitely not too sweet especially with the frosting I choose. I rated this a 4 just because I made all these changes but with the changes it is a 5!
