Magic Lemon Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
I love recipes with sweetened condensed milk. It gives this pie a smooth consistency, and sure makes it easy to make. However, we felt that this recipe was too sweet. If you like really sweet desserts, you'll like this.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This recipe offers a nice alternative to traditional banana bread. Of course it is pretty similar, and a little less healthy, but if you make a lot of banana bread I'd recommend you throw this one in there every now and again. It's lighter in texture than bread, and has a good flavor. I'm sure it would be great with frosting, but it's not necessary and the extra calories certainly are nice to leave off.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
Technically, any good chocolate chip cookie recipe could make big, fat, and chewy cookies... but this was a good recipe. I wasn't sure I'd like the texture with the melted butter, but actually it gives it a nice, rich flavor and the texture is great. I'll make these cookies often.

Peanut Butter Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
These were pretty good. Don't make them if you're looking for a dense, chewy peanut butter bar because they are a bit cakey. I'd say they're more like peanut butter cookies baked in the form of peanut butter bars. So, they taste fine, but I don't think I'll make them again because I personally felt they were too cakey and didn't have enough peanut butter flavor.

Pumpkin Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
This is the best pumpkin cake/bread I've tried from this site, and I've tried a whole lot of them. I think I'm finally done trying new pumpkin recipes- I'll stick with this one. It has a great texture: not too dense, but not too light. The flavor is wonderful if you follow the suggestions to add extra cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger. I definitely recommend you make this one with whole wheat flour. It gives it a nice, hearty texture and doesn't affect the flavor in any way.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
If you make a lot of pumpkin goods, this is a great recipe to add variety and try something new. It's good. I added some chocolate chips and the combination with the peanut butter and pumpkin was excellent. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more classic pumpkin cake/bread, I recommend Pumpkin Cake III from this site. I would probably only make this recipe 1 in every 10 times that I make the other, but this is one is still quite good.

Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2008
These muffins are great! I used whole wheat flour - it doesn't have any negative effect on the taste, and it gives them a nice texture. I also reduced the sugar to one cup, and added 1/2 c. honey, and substituted yogurt for the oil. Fresh pumpkin is better! After those alterations, these were healthy and delicious. No reason not to make them a little more healthy, and they come out great every time.

Granola Raisin Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
Excellent!! I made it with 100% whole wheat flour. The flavor and texture are great, plus it's healthy and very hearty. Every time we eat it, my husband can't stop saying how much he likes this recipe. I've been making a different recipe every day lately, and this one ranks at the top of the list.

Whole Wheat Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
I have been trying a new whole wheat recipe bread every day this week. The differences between each recipe are slight, but it looks like our family votes this recipe as the best one from the site. It wasn't too dense, nor did it have the bitter flavor some whole wheat bread has (I used 100% whole wheat, no bread flour). It tastes just like something from the bakery, even if you don't take the time to make it by hand.

Chocolate Streusel Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Very rich and chocolatey. A whole cup of sugar is absolutely unnecessary: 3/4 cup is plenty. Otherwise it comes out really sweet and a little grainy in texture. This recipe is worth trying, maybe as a replacement for brownies one day.

Classic Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Pretty good. I don't like candied sweet potatoes, but I made these for traditions sake for those who like them. My husband took them out of the oven for me, and was sure he wouldn't like them. In the end, we both liked them, and I'll use this recipe again for Christmas. I might add a few marshmallows on top because it would look nicer that way.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Very good and very easy. I used fresh pumpkin: it's only a little extra work, and it turns out better than the canned version. Don't be afraid to boil some pumpkin, it's even easier than making mashed potatoes :).

Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
This is a quick and healthy meal that tastes great. I added finely chopped potatoes with the onions, and added some chicken to make it more hearty. The potatoes give a nice texture and flavor. Also, if you don't have all of the seasonings- some of them are less common for the average American cook, and I can't find them in Taiwan- you can just put curry powder in place of the tumeric, coriander, cayenne pepper and cumin and it still turns out delicious (although I'm sure using all of the fresh seasonings as the recipe calls for is better).

Best Cream Of Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2007
This is a great soup. It's quite easy and fast, and very healthy. Next time I'll follow some of the reviews and leave chunks of broccoli in the soup. By the way, I added some cheddar cheese, and it was good, but I think if your calorie concscious it isn't worth it because you have to put a lot of cheese in to be able to taste it. It's good enough with out cheese.

Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2007
This is an excellent soup!! I felt like a professional chef after serving a soup like this. I made a different soup every day this week, and this was our favorite one. To make it even more healthy, I left out the sour cream and added 1 1/2 cup of milk to the roux before mixing it in with the rest of the soup. It's standard procedure in a lot creamy soup recipes, and it worked great with this one.

Gazpacho Andaluz

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
This is a great gazpacho recipe. My mother-in-law is Spanish, and she always made this for my husband. This is the first time I have made it that he has been satisfied as to its authenticity. BUT, don't add so much water!! I didn't add any water, just some ice (in the blender) to make it cold rather than room temperature. Otherwise, the flavor will be too watered down and the consistency will be too liquidy.

Baked Sweet Potato Sticks

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2007
This is simple, tasty, and pretty healthy for a side dish. I do it all the time with normal potatoes... don't know why I didn't think of using sweet potatoes before.

Curried Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2007
This is a nice side dish. If made with multi-grain rice and a little less butter, it tastes great and is quite healthy. I didn't have almonds, so I put toasted walnuts instead, and it was still delicious.

Brown Chicken Stock

Reviewed: May 24, 2007
This is an excellent chicken broth. It's easy to make, and sooo much better than store bought. Plus, it's "all natural." I use it to substitute for oil in a lot of my cooking. It's much healthier.

Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2007
I like the oatmeal aspect of this recipe, but it was too dry for my taste. I'll keep looking for a more juicy apple crisp.
