Country Fried Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
Today was the first time I had made fried steak. 4 minutes was too long on each side. After the 1st steak, I cooked them closer to 3 minutes. The egg and milk mixture wasn't quite enough for all 4 steaks. They may have been larger than the recipe called for. I also used Chicago steak seasoning b/c it was what I had. However, they came out pretty well and I will definitely use this recipe again.

Mom's Country Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
I had never made country gravy before today. It was pretty easy. I didn't use as much milk. I think I used between 3 1/4 - 3 1/2. I had to whisk it a whole bunch to make it smooth. But it was pretty tasty!

Parmesan Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Super-delicious! I adjusted the bread crumb and parmesan cheese amount to match the # of chops. I didn't use butter. I used my own dried sage. The lemon was a great idea! I also added 5 minutes to the time. They were really easy. I'll definitely make again.

Strawberry Cake and Frosting I

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2011
This cake was a big success at my daughter's 4th birthday party. The cake part I did exactly what the recipe said. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with the frozen strawberries so I popped in the microwave for about 20 seconds to defrost them a little. Then I threw them in the food processor. I didn't know how else to blend them into the cake batter. I had to cook the cake about 38 mins. That is because I used a larger crown cake tin. The frosting worked a little differently. I did not drain the juices since I used the food processor. I wound up using closer to 7 cups of sugar for the frosting. It was pretty sweet so I added a little less than a 1/2 tsp of salt. The cake was really good. Definitely a keeper and worth sharing with others.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
I made these cupcakes for my family's Easter dinner. I followed the recipe exactly. I used white cake mix and chocolate whipped frosting. I froze the cookie dough for several hours. They came out perfect! Thanks for such a neat idea for cupcakes.

Layered Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
This recipe was so good! I used canned peaches because fresh peaches aren't in season. The rest of the recipe followed exactly. I made it the night before for my church's Easter lunch and it was devoured. Thanks for so such a yummy, easy fruit salad.

Creamy Parmesan Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
I followed the recipe exactly except I used regular cream cheese and russet potatoes. My husband did not like the potatoes. He said that mashed potatoes shouldn't have cream cheese in them. I thought they tasted decent. The potatoes needed to be boiled longer. I don't know if that is because I used a different type of potato. They weren't soft enough. I also had to dump some of the broth after the prescribed boiling time. I won't make these again since my husband didn't care for them.

Baked Round Steak in Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
The recipe wasn't hard to make. I set the temperature to 350 because my oven doesn't seem to cook right when set to 325. I kept the cooking time the same. The meat came out just fine. If I could change anything I would find a way to make the sauce thicker.

Broccoli Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
This was a pretty good recipe. The best part was how easy it was to make. I used more chicken and less broccoli than asked. I figured the cream of broccoli soup would make up for the difference. I added 1/2 cup sour cream and seasonings per the recommendation of others. I also added 1/2 cup cheese to the mix. I steamed frozen broccoli and mixed everything together. Temperature and time in the oven were the same. I tried making my own bread crumbs by toasting bread and crumbling it. That didn't work too well. After eating it, I feel like it still needs more for the flavor. But, the recipe is well worth doing again.

Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
I used this recipe over Thanksgiving bc I was out of town & didn't have access to my regular recipe. It was pretty good but I think I cooked it a little too long. I've made pecan pie multiple times and this one was different with the cooking of the sugar mixture. But it still tasted really good.

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2010
Holy moly, was that a good brownie! I've never made brownies from scratch before. This recipe is awesome! The only things I did differently were reduce the flour to 1 cup per the recommendation of others and add chocolate chips. I also cooked them for the full 30 mins in a 9X13 glass pan. These might be the best brownies I've ever had.

Chocolate Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2010
I had never made a cake from scratch before. I don't think I watched the cake well enough and cooked it a little long for my oven, though I followed the time on the recipe. The cake looked really pretty. I even took a picture and sent it to my sisters. The glaze was wonderful! I believe if I had paid closer attention to my cake, it would have turned out amazing.

Fabulous Fajitas

This is a really good fajita recipe. I don't use mushrooms because my husband is allergic and I don't use as many peppers. I also use a homemade italian seasoning recipe from thise site. They taste great!

I made this seasoning mix specifically for a fajita recipe (Fabulous Fajitas) that is also from this site. It works great. I haven't tried it for anything else yet but I hope to in the future.

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2010
I have never fried anything before. I think for the first try, these came out pretty good. I followed the recipe exact except for the water. I just kept putting water in until the consistency seemed right. The seasoning amount was plenty, though maybe a little too salty. I would suggest taking out either the onion salt or garlic salt and substituting one of the powders and adjusting the amount. Otherwise, not a bad recipe.

Spoiled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
This was soooo easy! I had never used a broiler before. I boiled the ribs as instructed. I didn't have apple cider vinegar so I used KC Masterpiece Original BBQ sauce. I basted the ribs on one side and broiled them for 3 mins. I turned them and basted them again for another 3 mins. After I took them out of the oven I put a little more sauce on them. They came out really yummy. I was quite proud of myself. I wish I had two racks!

Amish Sugar Cookies

LOVE these cookies. So do the ladies I work with. It was really easy to do and the recipe yields ALOT of cookies. They do seem a little crumby but they melt in your mouth. My husband described them as fluffy. I'll definitely make these again.

Beef and Noodle Bake

What I liked about this recipe was how easy it was. However, it needed more flavor. More cheese, some spice. I didn't change anything the first time I make it but I will the next time.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2009
I cooked these up tonight and they came out pretty nice. I followed the recipe except I doubled the sauce as per the recommendation of others. I also covered the pork chops for the first half hour and uncovered them the second. They came out very juicy. Next time I will substitute the ketchup for bbq sauce per the request of my husband and see how that turns out.

Fluffy Pancakes

This is the best pancake recipe! I have a couple others that I've tried and the pancakes never come out fluffy enough. The only change I made was using butter instead of shortening. They still come out really good.
