Cupcake Graveyard

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2007
Use clean plastic doll parts as decorations. A fresh grave with a Barbie arm (or two) sticking out is frightful.

Blue Cheese and Pear Tartlets

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
Great idea for a simple, different appetizer. It is easily transported. This recipe easily makes 2 packages, or 30, phyllo shells. I tried combinations of apples instead of pears and gorgonzola instead of blue cheese. Both were good. Next I'll try feta cheese with a sprinkle of oregano on top.

Vegan Mac and No Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
This is delicious. During treatment for thyroid cancer I had to go on a low-iodine diet which means no dairy and no soy. I couldn't even use rice milks or almond milks because they all contain sea salt. This recipe was the rare treat I could have then, and I still enjoy it.

No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
These are delicious and easy. I used natural maple syrup and natural peanut butter. One time I accidentally added the peanut butter before boiling the first ingredients and they didn't set well so that may be the problem some reviewers had. Follow the instructions and they'll be perfect.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
I used granulated sugar as instructed and beat it for 28 hours but it remained gritty, even after adding the flour mixture. I had to throw it away. I give 2 stars because it would probably work with powdered sugar.

Butter Cake

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
This is simple and quite tasty. I made cupcakes and they only took 25 minutes. I also made one batch substituting about 1/2 cup cocoa for slightly less than 1/2 cup flour and it was a great chocolate version. I think it's hard to screw up.

Amish Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
I really love the advice for the extra rising. I ran it through the complete dough cycle on my bread machine (rises twice) then added more flour (was too wet) then ran through a complete basic cycle (rises twice more and bakes.) So I didn't have to pay attention to the beeps and get the add-ins on time or stop before the baking and restart. I added 1/4 cup ground flaxseed because I don't like my bread so white. It was good.

Stir and Drop Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I used powdered sugar (about 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp) instead of granulated and they were really good. They're like shortbread without the butter aftertaste. I left out the lemon, added almond extract and cinnamon, and used cinnamon and sugar on top. I think they'd be good with the lemon or any flavor you have on hand.

Basil-Lime Sorbet

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
Ran out of lime juice - used lime + lemon + pineapple. Had no basil - used sage. Threw in frozen blackberries. The sorbet was DELICIOUS, just seedy from the blackberries. Yes my username should be FailureToFollowDirections.

Egg-Free Dairy-Free Nut-Free Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Use soy milk instead of water - add vinegar to soy milk and set aside to curdle while mixing dry ingredients. The reaction of the acid in the sour milk and the alkali of the baking soda makes for perfect leavening, no eggs required. This should help those who thought it was too dense.

Crackle Top Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
Tender & delicious. I left out ginger, cloves & egg; added cayenne pepper, almond extract & flaxseed with water (for the egg.) Flavor is perfect, just a little heat but lingers in your mouth. Instead of all white sugar I used half brown and heated the oil & sugars until sugars melted.
