French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
Very good. This isn't exactly as I remember my French-Canadian grandmothers making, but it's pretty close. Changes I made: I used 2 lbs of ground pork (no beef), omitted the water (the onions and pork rendered plenty of juice), and brushed an egg wash onto the crust.

Caramel Apple Jam

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Not all that great. The flavor was ok -- but as other reviewers have noted, not much caramel flavor and more like apple pie. With all the work involved -- peeling and chopping -- probably not something I'll try again. I also had trouble getting mine to set up, so I just relabeled it "dessert topping".

Sparkling Holiday Jam

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Not bad at all -- I halved the recipe as this makes just too much. Next time I'll up the ratio of cranberries to strawberries as I'd like it a bit more tart. Also, an immersion blender saved lots of time by avoiding having to chop up the berries in advance.

French Silk Chocolate Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Pretty good. I thought the filling was a little heavy -- and there wasn't enough to fill the pie shell. I made a whipped cream topping to fill it out. Next time I might try whipping the egg whites and folding them into the mixture to give it more volume and lightness.

Chocolate Bliss Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
The chocolate helps counter the sweetness of the usual pecan pie in this recipe. Next time, I may try it in a chocolate crumb crust rather than a traditional pie crust.

A classic. It may not be haute cuisine, but it is good!

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I used less sugar than the recipe called for, about 1/4 c -- I might even leave it out completely next time. I also roasted the sweet potatoes for any hour at 450F to give them extra sweetness and a roasty flavor. Superb!

Limeade

Far too weak! Should be named Water with a faint relation to limes.

Tomato Bread III

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2001
Great recipe! I had my doubts as I was putting it all together, but it came out great. Only change I had made was to use fresh tomotaoes from the garden.
