Delicious Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
I use this for the BBQ sauce in the "Simple Country Ribs" recipe by Phoenix33_64 from this site. I make 48 servings, which seems like a waste for one meal, but it tastes sooooo good. I thought I might try freezing the leftover BBQ sauce to reuse it a second time for the same recipe. Does anyone think it would be a problem freezing and reusing the sauce after cooking with pork ribs for 40 minutes? I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Golden Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
Update 3/10/13: I've been making this recipe for three years. I changed the recipe when I gave up dairy and meat. My vegan version replaces the egg with "Ener-G" brand egg replacer. I replaced the cow milk with coconut milk. Immediately I thought they tasted better. These were fantastic. The best rolls. I used 3/4 teaspoon salt, butter instead of shortening, cut the recipe in half, used two smaller large eggs. I made on Thanksgiving and formed them to read THANX. They were ready early so they had extra time to rise. The letters were huge. I've been looking for a replacement for the hamburger rolls my husband likes, because they aren't organic. I'm going to try to form these into hamburger rolls next time. I used a meat thermometer to check the water temp - never did that before. My usual hot tap water was hotter than the recommended temperature. I let cool to the perfect temperature before mixing with the yeast. I think these were my most successful yeast rolls ever.

Chicken Paprikash

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
This has a wonderful flavor. I use 1/4 cup less flour to make the dumplings less dense. I can't tell a difference between using bone-in or boneless chicken, except boneless cooks faster. Also, it's less greasy without the skins. I use the extra sauce as a topping for the chicken. Where do you buy Hungarian paprika? I didn't find it at my local grocery store. No matter what recipe I've tried, the flavor never seems to soak into the chicken. The chicken itself seems bland.

Angel Food Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2008
I use a 9x13 greased pan and bake for 25 minutes. With no fat in the cake and only 1/4 cup butter in the frosting, I make this cake every week. My husband and I can't get enough. I made it for a family party today and two of my sisters wanted the recipe. It's the best.

Baked Lemon Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2008
Sugar amount is missing in ingredient list. In the last sugar addition I used 1/2 c. which was probably too much because I couldn't get the stiff peaks to form. I baked 1 1/2 hours and the pudding was still watery. I added some flour and cooked it on the stove to thicken some. It seems the recipe needs some flour or corn starch. In the future, I'll stick to stove-top pudding.

Butternut Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
I didn't have vanilla wafers so I used crushed Wheaties. I thought the topping was a bit too crunchy but my husband loved it. To prepare the squash, I cut the squash in half, removed seeds and salted each cavity. I baked the squash in the oven in 2 tablespoons melted butter at 375 for 45 minutes. Then I peeled and pureed the squash in the blender.

Strawberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
After complaints of lack of sweetness, the second time I added 1 tablespoon honey and I topped it with a mix of 1 tablespoon sugar & 1/2 teaspoon lemon peel from another recipe. I used olive oil instead of canola oil.

Banana Raisin Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
This is great. I used 1 c white & 1 c brown sugar as suggested by other reviewers. While eating it, I thought it might taste even better with pineapple. My second try I used 2 bananas & 1 cup pineapple. I also used the pineapple juice from the can instead of the water. My family usually calls me Deborah, referring to Raymond's wife who can't cook on 'Everybody Loves Raymond'. Everybody loved this. My sister-in-law asked for the recipe. When she made it she omitted the salt & 1/2 the oil & it was still very good. The best.

Breaded Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
I prepared this in the morning when I had more time. Then when I was ready to fix dinner, all I had to do was put it in the oven & bake. I'm just learning how to cook. I used the parmesan cheese & added rosemary, sage, & thyme. I didn't like the rosemary. I don't know spices so I don't always know what to use. I used onion powder instead of garlic salt (I'm allergic to garlic). I didn't pound the meat but it was very tender. The coating was tasty, but the meat had no flavor.

Carrot Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
I followed other reviewers advice & only used 1 c. oil. Also 1 c. brown sugar & 1 c white sugar. I added 1/2 c walnuts. It wasn't as good as I expected. Perhaps I needed the extra oil. I did like the icing better than other cream cheese recipes suggested because it's lower in fat, with no butter. I've used the icing on other recipes. My husband loves it.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
The second time I made this I used light corn syrup instead of honey to keep the sweetness but get rid of the fermented honey smell. I also found it easier to bake all 3 loaves & then freeze 2 of the loaves after baking. When I froze the dough, it took 1/2 a day to rise before cooking.

Macaroni Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
Per other reviewers suggestions, I used 16 oz. macaroni & added extra salt, paprika & pepper. I also covered with foil. I'm still looking for a macaroni & cheese recipe that's as flavorful as using Velveeta cheese, but without all the artificial ingredients. Kraft Dinner is great also, but I stay away from foods like that now. I love the taste though.

Icy Banana Milkshake

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
I used 3 bananas instead of 2. I could only fit 2 1/2 cups of milk in my blender. The shake was thick & sweet. My husband couldn't believe there wasn't any ice cream in it. He put his in the freezer to make it extra cold before drinking. A big hit.
