Christmas Prime Rib

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2015
This review is mostly just for the seasoning, which is really good. I accidentally left the oven at 450* for just over an hour. No matter; we just ate dinner an hour early! The roast was just barely overcooked after that mistake.

Thai Chicken Bites With Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2015
I made it as written. Aside from finding it a bit too salty, this was delicious! I would reduce the salt in the spice mixture next time and maybe reduce the amount of chicken broth and coconut milk in the sauce to keep it thicker and more peanutty.

Haldi Ka Doodh (Hot Turmeric Milk)

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2015
I liked the flavours and the concept but found that the black pepper overwhelmed everything else. Maybe my black pepper is especially potent?! I'll try with 1/16th tsp of pepper next time.

Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2015
Turned out as it should, but I probably wouldn't make it again. I reduced the kahlua to about 1/2 tsp per serving and next time I would reduce it further (down to about 1/4 tsp per serving) as I found the alcohol taste overpowered the chocolate. I think I like egg white based mousses better than whipped cream ones - I'm not someone to shy away from full-fat food but this was too rich for me to eat much of.

Chocolate Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2014
I didn't use any milk because it looked really soft, although it firmed up a lot in the fridge. Skipping the milk helped with piping. I also skipped about 1/2 cup of the icing sugar because although I liked the cream cheese flavour, I still would've preferred a less sweet and deeper chocolate flavour. I used dutch processed cocoa for a richer colour and flavour.

Fried Asparagus with Bacon

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2014
I think I'd prefer sauteeing the asparagus over higher heat rather than steaming it with a lid on, but otherwise great flavour. I'll try sauteeing next time!

Cranberry, Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2013
Great! I made it as instructed and will definitely make again. The sausage is take-it-or-leave-it, for anyone wondering.

Easy Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
I was trying to use up a box of lemon cake mix in the cupboard that I was gifted. These didn't impress - they're more like dollops of cake than cookies and the lemon flavour is just so incredibly fake (although that's maybe my own fault for using a box mix in the first place...) Should have just baked a cake with it.

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
Reduced baking soda to 1.25 tsp to make it extra dense. Icing makes it very rich but tasty. Grate the zucchini fine for better texture - I did coarse and it's okay but you can tell there's bits in the cake part.

Hasty Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2013
Not bad. The texture was more jelly than creamy like I was hoping for. Use a good quality cocoa powder; you'll notice the difference in flavour.
