My kitchen has been silent.  It’s pretty much a ghost town in there.  You would think it would stay clean, though!  But no, it seems that when I am in a non-cooking phase it’s actually more cluttered because I am not there regularly to tidy up the debris that seems to pile up.I started… MORE

Last Friday we spent the day on the set of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”  We had been asked to donate our time and equipment to the project of turning a house into an erupting volcano during demolition.  While this was the first “volcano house” we have ever made, in the pyrotechnics world… MORE

So I’m just sitting here this morning, enjoying the quiet start to my day.  School started up for the kids last week and I love getting back into the school routine.  I am a slow starter in the morning.  I like to get up an hour before everyone else to “warm up” my achy joints before doing… MORE

I’ve seen several great blog posts on here referencing canning and a recent visit to our newly opened Wilco store, with an entire aisle devoted to canning, has me thinking back to the last time I canned anything.Canning was a part of life in my formative years.  We had large gardens and late… MORE

Especially these next few weeks!  The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus is making it’s rounds here in Washington State and we, as with almost any tour that comes here, are providing the “local license” for the pyrotechnics.  This is such a professionally run organization that there… MORE

Do you ever find yourself telling the kids “Stop playing with your food!”?  Well I just discovered a way to let them get it all out of their system.Recently, our county Parks & Recreation held the Gross Out Olympics for kids age 3 and up.  It was the last one of three for this summer but the… MORE

My daughter called me tonight to check in and tell me that she desperately wished she was sitting at home with me instead of hanging out with giggling friends at the 80’s-theme costume sleepover party she was attending.OK, that’s not entirely true but she did call me to check in.  And to… MORE

People we meet are always fascinated by what we do for a living.  It seems so mundane to me now but I forget that when Rick and I first met, I thought it was pretty interesting and exciting too.  It does have its awesome moments but I have also seen the difficult work and stress that goes… MORE

Hi everyone!  I feel like I know many of you just from reading the great blogs and comments over the years.  Yes, I’ve been one of those “lurkers.”  You’ve probably seen me hanging around the dark corners of this site, the middle aged woman in the ratty bathrobe with my hair sticking out in… MORE

About Me
I am the mother of 3 - 22 & 19 yr old boys and a 10 yr old girl. We have a pyrotechnics company and get to experience fun events all over the state and country. After a lifetime of rarely leaving Washington State, I love experiencing new foods during our travels.
My favorite things to cook
Just about anything except baking. I like to "wing it" when I am cooking which isn't good for baking. And it's also a problem when everyone loves something I made. It can be difficult to come up with the same thing twice. We dine at restaurants the majority of the time but I love being able to make a home-cooked meal for my family.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 10, my sister and I tried to make a recipe for Shepherds Pie that used instant mashed potatoes but we neglected to prepare the potatoes before adding them on top. It turned out glue-like but the adults did a great job of eating some of it and telling us it was "just fine". But there was a lot of water consummed with that meal!!!
