About this Cook
I'm living here in Houston, Texas currently going to school. I grew up in Dallas and have a strong background in music, volunteer work, and cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I adore Italian food and so does my boyfriend! I've been practicing a lot more since we began dating. I have perfected a pesto chicken with tomatoes and pasta, linguine in clam sauce, and a fabulous slow cooker chicken cacciatore. Also, Mexican food is a constant work-in-progress as I am learning authentic recipes in lieu of tex-mex fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern, southern, southern! My family is from rural Georgia steeped in country cooking. I have fond memories of friend chicken, roast, cheese straws, grand jello salads, and potatoes. I love "healthifying" the old southern dishes my grandma passed on to me. She has a fabulous lemon cake recipe that rivals any bakery or restaurant cake I have ever tasted.
My cooking triumphs
Amazing Italian dishes, quiche, simple eggs, stir fry, all with an emphasis on healthful and some vegetarian. I make wonderful carrot muffins and key lime pie.
My cooking tragedies
Thanksgiving turkey. I really need to work on not screwing that one up next year! I'm squeamish sometimes with poultry and other raw meat and that huge turkey was more than I could bear! I hope to improve.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce
Made this tonight, and I loved it. My boyfriend thought it was yummy as well, and he can be really picky when it comes to pasta sauces. Think I may have been a little too liberal with the cayenne so I'll use less next time. I also added diced grilled chicken. This recipe is fantastic!!!
