Satay Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2007
I made this with a lobster and chive bisque for a Valentine's dinner with my boyfriend--it was a lot of fun cooking it together, and it tasted absolutely superb! We added some yellow onions we didn't end up needing for our bisque. My roommates loved the leftovers, too!

Lobster and Chive Bisque

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2007
I've never made bisque before, nor even tasted it, so I was playing a guessing game of whether or not I did things right. It turned out fairly well, but I don't know that I would make it again. If I did, I would probably add more lobster meat (I didn't actually use enough in the first place, the tail I bought was only about 3/4 cups of meat), and I would definitely remember to cut it up a lot more than I had. My boyfriend and roommate both enjoyed it, but it was a little too bland for its rich texture.

Chilled Strawberry Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2007
It was absolutely delicious! I used heavy whipping cream because it was what I had on hand, but it was wonderful. I think I would perhaps use granulated sugar instead of confectioner's. I shaved some lime chocolate on the top and sprinkled a pinch of confectioner's sugar. Aside from an extremely difficult blender, it was really easy to make, and it tasted absolutely amazing. I made it for dessert for my boyfriend for Valentine's day and we both loved it, from the first taste to the last spoonful. I may try to remember next time to set aside a little bit of the cream after I whip it and use that to make a pretty garnish, with shaved chocolate on top of that. I WILL be making it again, probably very frequently.

Sugar Cookie Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2007
I thickened this with a lot of extra powdered sugar and used it as an icing. It was no more or less impressive than anything else I've ever homemade before. Doubt I'll ever bother with this again.

Sugar Cookie Slices

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2007
WOW! I wasn't expecting much, this being an eggless cookie and all. But it's amazing! My roommate and I love them! They're the perfect texture, too. I would say that they do get crumbly as a dough, but only when warm--I cut thin slices, so it took me a while to cook them all, one little pan at a time, and I wish I'd put the roll back in the fridge in between. The last couple batches were REALLY hard to pull apart cohesively.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2007
WOW! My roommates, my boyfriend and I all loved it, I'll be making this often. There's lots of leftovers too, I hope it reheats well--otherwise I'll have to halve the recipe next time. Absolutely worthwhile, I can see it being a favorite for any family.

Slow Cooker Party Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2007
A little too salty. I think next time, I'll add a lot more parmasean (I threw in freshly grated cheese and it gave me delicious toasted bits, but I want more of them) and perhaps some paprika, not to mention lessen the salt.

BLT Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2007
Way too bland for me. I added probably about a tablespoon of Paprika before I was close to satisfied. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough ranch on hand, so it's a little dry, but it still tastes alright. I also subbed turkey bacon for pork bacon, which cut back on some fat and it tastes just fine. My boyfriend and I enjoyed it in some tortillas as wraps, but I don't think it does well by itself. I won't be making it again unless my boyfriend asks me to. If I do, maybe I'll try using a different dressing, with some more flavor to it.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
UGH! I don't know if I did something wrong, but this came out horrible. Crunchy and disgusting. I had to throw it away. I may have used too much macaroni (I had to estimate out of my 22 oz bag) and I had to use a 3 quart dish, so it could just be my own fault, but it was disgusting.

Cheddar Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
WOW! What a hearty loaf! It wasn't pretty, I'll admit, but it tasted amazing. A thick slice warmed up for about 30 seconds in the microwave makes for a terrific breakfast.

Easy Cheesy Chicken I

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
I subbed an extra can of cheese for the mushroom soup, and used only three large frozen breasts. My boyfriend and I loved it for dinner that night (though it was hard to resist eating it early, it smelled SO amazing), and I nuked the last breast for my lunch the next day. It was still good, but best fresh, I think. In my rub, I used salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika. I think the addition of paprika helped to offset the cheese flavor, without adding a big bite to the chicken.

Peppermint Meringues

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
An awful lot of work when you're doing it by hand, but it was worth it. Mine were just a little bit too thick still when I cooked them, but I liked the resulting texture. Next time, I won't bother with the peppermint. It didn't add in my opinion, and I instead gobbled up the half dozen or so that I left plain.

Classic recipe, priceless. I usually just make small batches and eat it while it's still warm, it's been my favorite way to eat it since I was a little kid.

Karjalan Pies

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2007
Mine weren't pretty, and due to the grocery store being out of rye flour and me being impatient, I used plain white flour. But it tastes great! I put a slice of cheese over a few when I took them out of the oven and my boyfriend and I ate them with the melted cheese. Absolutely amazing. I can't think of a better breakfast food or heavy snack. Will have to determine the best way to reheat. I hope nuking will work, but I think oven will be the only way to get the right texture.

I never would have thought sour cream and whipped topping would make this so good, but it's a thick and creamy pudding. Easy to overeat, so be careful! :)

Carrot Salad

Absolutely delicious! May want to consider draining the shredded mixture before adding the honey and lemon juice and such. Mine was just a little bit runny from the extra juices.
