A Little Break

There was fog in the valley this morning. That is a rare occurrence.

Things are a little crazy right now. I need to have Christmas presents finished and 100 bars of soap wrapped and ready to deliver before Thanksgiving this year. Processing of the cows starts tomorrow, so today is about the only day I have to really get on things. Add to the mix that I am feeding crew right now and had to get some cabins ready for the people that are coming to help.

There just was no way to keep going without a break, so me and the 'boys' went for a walk around the pasture behind the house.

The boys found the "kiddie pool"

There was a very happy cow who serenaded us, as we stopped to rest for a moment.

There was a lot of horseplay going on, as the 'polar bears' practiced their guarding and attack skills...

...poor Cletus. He is always the victim of Bruno's sneak attacks.

...the goats jumped into the 'cereal bowl' in a shocking display of bad manners...

...and of course, Cider made it back with the same toy he left with, an hour earlier.

We made it back home and it was  'back to the old grind'. But its all worth it, because riding starts again tomorrow.

Beautiful pics, Petey. I just love your menagerie! Wishing you luck with all the holiday prep. Hope all the work now means you can rest later. Happy Thanksgiving!

Love your pics! I'm impressed with Cider! My dogs will "sneak" a toy outside and come back in leaving the toy at the furthest point from the door! They know "Mom" will go back out and retrieve it for them. And my dogs are trained retrievers, Ha! Ha! They're also spoiled kids, so they know they don't have to pickup their toys....Cider looks very much like our first Golden Retriever we had, Goldie. Thanks for sharing these pics.

About Me
Kids are raised, we are ranchhands on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch 110 miles from the nearest small town, so we raise a lot of our own food, vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs and meat. Love riding and working cattle, but find myself spending a lot more time in the kitchen, and the garden. forpeteysake.blogspot.com http://throughthedarkestvalleys.blogspot.com/
My favorite things to cook
Having 2 Jersey cows as well as milk goats, playing with fresh milk is a hobby, making our own butter, yogurt, sour cream, cheeses, soap and all the other great stuff you can do with fresh raw milk.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade from scratch...anything! All traditions are sort of gone by the wayside, as we live so far from family now
My cooking triumphs
Most things from this site, this has been the best thing the internet has had to offer!
My cooking tragedies
A layered Jello dessert...the middle layer never set, so it did the 'ooze-wiggle'...and...well..I liquified a couple of chickens on 2 different occasions, turning them into a black gel. Moral of that story is, don't start cooking then go clean barns!...and there was the time that my kids were helping me make Thanksgiving dinner and SOMEbody (who resembled my youngest son) forgot to put the sugar in the pie!!!
