Lighter than air Chicken

One thing about living out in the middle of nowhere...you meet the most interesting people!! Part of the ranch sets on a very large dry lakebed. The women's landspeed record was set on this lakebed at 512 mph.

People show up to do all kinds of things...camp, landsail, hike, take pictures, use the hot springs and this particular weekend, the balloonists came. The kids, of course, ran down to greet them and returned with an invitation to fly!  Well...even someone like me, with a healthy case of acrophobia, could not turn down such an invitation, as it would be so rude!

So, at sunrise this morning, this chicken went flying in a hot air balloon!! Yeah, you wondered where the food part of the discussion was gonna show up, didn't you? That was it...well, and a little advice...don't eat until you get back home, but its worth the trip!!

Oh Petey, now we're up to about 19 reasons why I need to come see you. How was it being up close and personal with the Steens?

Sounds fun, but I don't think I could do this, I just panic at high places. I'm glad you had a good time! :)

Great pictures! If I ever had an opportunity to go up,up,up and away, I'd do it in a hot second. Now that you've experienced that, would you do it again tomorrow?

Looks like so much fun! We used to live in Adrian, Oregon! There is something special about the desert! The Steens are so pretty!

Here's where you don't remind me of me at all. I grasp onto anything sturdy when I reach the third step of the ladder. This makes it diffficult to pick apples, but in my family that has become a 'blue job'

About Me
Kids are raised, we are ranchhands on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch 110 miles from the nearest small town, so we raise a lot of our own food, vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs and meat. Love riding and working cattle, but find myself spending a lot more time in the kitchen, and the garden. forpeteysake.blogspot.com http://throughthedarkestvalleys.blogspot.com/
My favorite things to cook
Having 2 Jersey cows as well as milk goats, playing with fresh milk is a hobby, making our own butter, yogurt, sour cream, cheeses, soap and all the other great stuff you can do with fresh raw milk.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade from scratch...anything! All traditions are sort of gone by the wayside, as we live so far from family now
My cooking triumphs
Most things from this site, this has been the best thing the internet has had to offer!
My cooking tragedies
A layered Jello dessert...the middle layer never set, so it did the 'ooze-wiggle'...and...well..I liquified a couple of chickens on 2 different occasions, turning them into a black gel. Moral of that story is, don't start cooking then go clean barns!...and there was the time that my kids were helping me make Thanksgiving dinner and SOMEbody (who resembled my youngest son) forgot to put the sugar in the pie!!!
