I think I got a little too carried away with this one. I read two pages worth of readers' reviews and jotted down several ways that everyone spiced up the recipe. I thought that if I added a little of everyone's thoughts that I would have a killer dinner. I was wrong. I added steamed frozen spinach and frozen brocoli to a mixture of one can condensed milk and one can of chicken broth using 3 tbsp flour and 1/4 cup of butter. I felt that the tastes of the brocoli and spinach contradicted each other for an unsatisfactory taste. Using simply what I had in the house, I blended six leftover Pillsbury dinner biscuits for a bread topping before putting it in the oven for 15 min. Another bad decision. I felt that the sweetness of the rolls combined with the unpleasant taste of the vegetables was too much for me. I also sauteed onions and mushrooms, but in my hurry to keep adding ingredients to spice up this recipe, I didn't cook them long enough, so the strong taste of onion tended to overpower the other offending tastes.
And by the way - all that liquid I added was way too much! I ended up making two casseroles!!
All in all - if you are going to try this recipe, don't make my mistake. Stick to a couple of added ingedients, not 25! Even my husband didn't like my variation, and he eats everything. At first I thought that it was me, since I'm pregnant, but nope, it really wasn't good. I'm giving it four stars though because I'm the one who messed it up.
