About this Cook
I an a 42-year old stay-at-home mom with two beautiful girls, ages 9 and 6.
My favorite things to cook
My husband and I have been trying to change our eating habits, so I have been experimenting with newer, healthier recipes to replace my old standards. I like cooking what tastes good, but I would not consider myself a gourmet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family tends to have the same things when we get together -- especially our special mexican dip. It just wouldn't be a family party without our favorite foods!
My cooking triumphs
I guess I would say that my "triumph" is that when people think of good meals they have had they always refer to me. Hopefully I can keep this distinction after I change out my recipes with healthier ones!
My cooking tragedies
One day I set out to can peaches. I had never tried it before. I got the advice of someone and ended up with the wrong kind of peaches. The kitchen was a huge mess, I had 1 1/2 jars done, and someone called and asked me to go to Red Lobster. It took about 10 seconds for me to decide -- I turned off the stove, washed my hands, and left that mess! I never did finish that project.

Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian Barley Soup)
I would have to admit that the soup was interesting, and I ate the whole bowl, but I didn't want seconds and I can't imagine I will have any more of it. It just had a flavor I wasn't used to, and I didn't like the taste of the parsley. Sorry if I offended anyone! Just not my bowl of to speak.

Low-Fat Blueberry Bran Muffins
It's so nice to add recipes like this to my recipe book. Very good, satisfying flavor, especially when you eat them fresh from the oven. My kids didn't know they were good for them. They are a little sweet but I like them that way.

Lemon Berry Smoothie
This was a really good, refreshing smoothie. Using both blueberry yogurt and frozen blueberries made the blueberry taste stand out better. I had to use a little orange juice because I didn't have the lemon, but I will try again with the lemon.
