my homemade Gingerbread House
About this Cook
I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 stepkids along with trying to wear out my 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier(if that's even possible). I also enjoy spending my free time reading and doing any kind of craft stuff. My favorite thing to do is decorate for the different holidays.
My favorite things to cook
Any kind of dessert whether it's cookies, cakes or pies. One hit is my pumpkin pie. Another favorite of mine are peanut blossoms. I got the recipe from my grandmother and being that it's from her, they always turn out soft and chewy(she is one of the best cooks I know). Besides making desserts, my crock pot gets a lot of use. Being very busy, I enjoy making things that are quick and easy. Another help is my trusted bread machine. Myself and boyfriend really enjoy having fresh homemade bread around instead of store bought.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a child I would have to say making some kind of dessert with my parents. I guess I really liked baking for as long as I can remember. Now, I like to try out new recipes all the time so I really have no favorite traditon except to try new things.
My cooking triumphs
At about 12 or 13 years old, making homemade bread for the first time by myself for a 4-H project and getting a first place on it when it got judged. Nope, it didn't even cave in either! It was my very first try and got a perfect loaf of bread! Making peanut blossom cookies from scratch and giving my grandmother a "run for her money". She is one of the best cooks in the family and when other family members say that, it is really a terrific compliment to me. I guess I like to see what she does and use some of her secrets when it comes to baking, that is, if she is willing to share them with me. She usually keeps them to herself. I guess I count myself lucky when she gives me secrets that not only does she only know, but her daughers as well. I guess I count my lucky stars to be one of the few grandaughers to know some of her secrets.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make a homemade pie crust and it turned in to crumbs rather than a crust. I tried atleast a dozen times, or what seemed to be a dozen times and came out with the same results. I never again tried a homemade pie crust.

Homemade Fresh Pumpkin Pie
This was a very good pie. I baked my pumpkin(a sugar/baking pumpkin) then let it cool. I also added slightly more of the cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg than the recipe called for and lowered the sugar slighly. I also added 1/4tp cloves as well. Otherwise it's a keeper.

Italian Bread Bowls
Very good! Nice and crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Was a little bland in taste for me but otherwise pretty good. I served it with some chicken stew/soup and it went over really well especially on a very cold day. Will definitely make again.

Ants on a Log
What a fun thing to make! I used to make these a lot when I was a kid at home and in girlscouts. Now, I sit down with my fiancees children and they both love to be able to do this on their own. Such a great healthy snack for everyone!
