Chipotle Shrimp Tacos

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
These shrimp were so easy and quick to make. Of course, the hardest part is making and prepping the items to put with it and shelling the shrimp. I made fresh corn tortillas and fresh guacamole as well as Best Black Beans from this site. A fresh pico de gallo or salsa to go with it would have even been better. The fresher the shrimp the better these tacos will be. Be sure to keep moving the shrimp around so that the bottom ones do not get too done too quickly. Do not cook the shrimp too long as they will get tough. Also use a high quality, robust flavored bacon for best flavor. I was able to cut down the quantity of the bacon to 8 oz and still had enough flavor and pieces to go with the shrimp. Great recipe! Thanks for sharing...my husband gobbled it up and thanked me profusely.

Yankee-Doodle Sirloin Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
This is a very easy and delicious roast for sirloin. I usually find my sirloin roasts to be pretty dry since they are so lean. As a result, I marinated my roast in one of those oven safe bags and then just baked it in the bag. This also saves on the cleanup since all the marinade is inside the bag. The meat came out very moist because it steamed in the marinade. I loosely tied a twist tie on the roast so some steam can escape. At the end, I stuck the meat thermometer through the bag to get the temp and let some of the steam escape. Thanks for the recipe!!!!

Booyah Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2010
I can hardly believe that only 3 people have tried this recipe. I made this recipe and it was delicious. It is a stew that will feed a crowd. I liked the way that the different meats flavored each other, and it was very simple. You basically put everything in the pot and cook it. It is a soul food in my opinion and great for cold winter nights to warm you up.

I did not have any saki or mirin so I just added White Wine. It turned out great! My family loved it.

Rabbit Stew with Coconut Cream

Reviewed: May 22, 2007
My husband said this was the best rabbit that he has ever had. A family friend had no idea that it was rabbit when served. The chili pepper added just the right amount of spice. I did not know what a bird's eye chile was so I used a serrano. It turned out great!!! Thanks!

Dana's Taco Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
This was surprisingly good for a healthy recipe!!!! I did not use the Catalina Dressing because taco salad is supposed to have fresh salsa as the dressing in my opinion. I also like fresh guacamole on top. It was a hit at my house. I also substituted Best Black Beans from this site in place of the Kidney Beans. This also enhanced the flavor of the dish. This was an absolute party in your mouth!!!!! I do not think it would have been as good as listed. So should I give less stars? Heck No!!!! You inspired me and that is what this site is all about. Way to go!!!!

Beef Heart Braised in Wine

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
Loved this dish!!! It was easy, had a short list of ingredients and turned out delicious in one pot. I think I would add more carrots and potatoes next time. If I did that I might also increase the gravy amounts slightly. I had a little more meat than vegetables.

Simple 100% Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2010
I have done this with success, however, I thought adding some Vital Wheat Gluten made the texture and rising a little lighter when using the whole wheat flour. The flavor of this bread is unchanged with this addition and the simplicity of the recipe is awesome!!!!! I used the gluten at 4 Tbls, and I added it at the beginning with the yeast.

Tropical Turkey Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
My family loved this recipe!!! Awesome way to reduce fat with a Turkey recipe without sacrificing flavor. I substituted Egg Replacer for the Egg substitute because my little one is allergic to eggs. Still came out awesome!!!

Slow-Cooked, Texas-Style Beef Brisket

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
There is no way I would cook an 8 lb brisket even on Low for 24 hours. Any crock pot worth having and working properly should have it sufficiently cooked in 8-10 hours. So that is why there are so many reviews that say it was burned. I have used the combination of ingredients before and it is excellent. However, i adjusted the cooking time to 1 hour per pound on Low.

Quail With Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2011
I made this last night for my very skeptical husband. He did not think he would like it after a very negative review of duck and goose. However, he was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it a lot. My young son also liked it. The only thing I changed was I substituted brown rice for long grain, some of the broth for white wine(1/2 cup) and I used an herb seasoning instead of Lemon pepper. I also added fresh garlic to the vegetable mix. Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe!

Bolognese Stuffed Bell Peppers

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2011
These were excellent! The stuffing flavors were awesome. The cooking time was just about right. I think blanching the peppers ahead of time might have made them less crunchy, but I like them that way. I also cut the peppers in half to stuff them. It seems to be easier for me and I like the presentation. It is also easier if you do not want to eat a whole stuffed pepper yourself. The only thing I did differently was leave out the cheese and used coconut milk for the cream due to allergy in the family.

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2011
I was not thrilled with this recipe. For some reason, this had little flavor. I am not exactly what I would blame it on other than there just was not the right combination of flavors here.

It tasted great, however, it was terribly gassy for our family so we will not make it again I do not think!!!! I even took Beano before eating this and I was gassy for 24 hours!!!! Was it the Curry Powder???? It remains a mystery.

Rice and Raisin Breakfast Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I liked this recipe because it is dairy free. My son has food allergies so this was absolutely perfect. He liked it and he does not usually eat cooked cereal. I think I would cook the rice a little longer with twice as much water, but the rest of the dish was a perfect blend. I used coconut milk in place of the soy. That was good and reduces the sugar in the recipe. Yummy!!!!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2009
This was easy and I love the idea of using the slow cooker especially in the summer time. It will also come in handy during the holidays when the oven may also be busy with other things. I added bit of orange juice in the bottom of the slow cooker. Next time I will definitely put some cloves on the ham. I think 1 hour per pound is a good judge of the amount of time you will need on Low.
