I probably won't be a regular blog contributor but I wanted to introduce myself.  I chose Reluctant Cook as my blog name because that is what I am.  I love homecooked food, particularly my own, but I don't like to be in the kitchen too long.  I have other interests and cooking is not my top priority.  With that said and as I already mentioned, I love my own cooking and my family does too.  And I love  It has been my lifesaver.  I don't even need to own cookbooks anymore.  I can find nearly everything here and it has actually made me more excited about cooking.   I find such wonderful recipes on here especially ones that save me time in the kitchen.  It is such a great collaboration of all cooks from different backgrounds sharing their recipes and knowledge.  Thanks,!

Welcome, Kristin! I still use cookbooks even though AR keeps me full of ideas. A lot of great tips come from those cooks that rather not be in the kitchen so stay with us, OK?

Glad to hear that you've joined the "group!" What I found when I began blogging, is that there's a WHOLE BUNCH of great folks out there who'll become friends over time, there's a WHOLE BUNCH of advice and answers to those pesky questions... I blog about all kinds of stuff, not always about food! This is a whole COMMUNITY of great people, so stay and keep us company! WELCOME to AllRecipes...

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. Since I wrote my first blog entry, I have actually cooked dinner at home for four days in a row. What an accomplishment for me! That used to be the norm for me but once my kids grew up, my hubby and I started going out to eat alot. I began noticing that my weight would go up when we ate out alot and then when I cooked at home for several days in a row, my weight would go down. That's pretty good incentive to cook at home every night. Saving money is another good incentive, especially with gas prices going up. Today I made Colleen's Slow Cooker Jambalaya in honor of Mardi Gras. It turned out wonderful. I don't think I've ever had Jambalaya and of course I don't know how authentic that version was but I don't care as long as I and my family like it. I did all the prep work last night so all I had to do was throw everything in the slow cooker this morning and had my son add the shrimp right before I got home.
