Slow Cooker Vegetable Soup

I cooked this on high for over 5 hours and the potatoes were still not softened. Also, the barley gave the soup a gummy consistency and we thought the whole thing had a strange sour flavor. Liked the dumplings though! Next time I'll try them in a different soup.

Red Quinoa and Avocado Salad

Eliminated the onion and spinach to make it more kid-friendly, and my daughter who swore she doesn't like quinoa actually licked her plate clean. I did think there was a bit too much lime juice in the dressing. I will add some olive oil next time to tone it down. A delicious and easy recipe.

Grandma's Molasses Bread

Have made this twice now. Mixed with bread machine, then shaped into small loaf. Let rise for 1 hour, then bake 40 min at 375. Delicious!

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

BEST FROSTING EVER! Followed the recipe exactly, except for omitting the nuts (daughter is allergic, so we just added more coconut). Be patient and it will thicken without adding cornstarch. It also thickens as it cools. I am requesting this frosting every birthday from now on!

Bread Machine Challah II

I've made this bread twice now and both times it took over 2 hours for the dough to double in size, even when I increased the yeast to 3 tsps. Otherwise, no complaints - easy, tasty and pretty.

Ham and Potatoes Au Gratin

I used onion powder instead of onion and sliced the potatoes thinly. Had to bake for over an hour to get the potatoes done. The whole family loved it, especially the kids!

French Dip Sandwiches

This was very good, but I did find the flavor of soy sauce a little odd (and I halved it!) in a french dip recipe. I used 1 tsp. "better than bouillon" instead of a bouillon cube. Will definitely make again, but probably omit the soy.

Glazed Sausage Bites Appetizer

I made them with hot sausage and thought the spicy sausage overpowered the flavor of the sauce. Would use regular sausage next time. Like others, I had a problem with thin sauce. I ended up adding more of all the sauce ingredients except the water and then it turned out fine.

Fresh Pineapple Dessert

The coconut burned before the sugar and pineapple were even warm. We picked off the burnt coconut and put it back in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. My daughter loved it; my husband and I thought it was okay. Liked the flavors, but won't be making it again.

Sweet Sausage 'n' Beans

Delicious and so easy! A little too sweet for my husband. I might reduce the sugar a bit next time. Would also be good with chunks of ham instead of sausage.
