About this Cook
I jump at any opportunity to cook for someone, but I'm still in the learning stages. It's all very trial and error for me, and I'm still searching for the -perfect- cake recipe. I'm hoping to start and Kendall Culinary College in Chicago next fall to earn my bachelor's degree in culinary arts with a two year specialization in baking and pastry...but until then, I'll just keep playing around in the kitchen.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking...especially cakes, but, all in all, I love cooking just about everything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditional English Christmas cake that takes months to prepare, as well as our Christmas Eve party, since I'm let loose in the kitchen with no boundaries. :-D
My cooking triumphs
I somehow volunteered myself to help my cooking-impaired friend make a four course meal for his mom and her friends for her birthday, and even though I was recovering from being ill, we pulled it nearly flawlessly and had rave reviews.
My cooking tragedies
I was making the ultimate chocolate cake when the cakes refused to come out of the pan and fell apart in front of me. It was irreparable, but still edible...but Betty Crocker recipes and I haven't gotten along since.

French Pastry Pie Crust
This was my first attempt at making pastry from scratch, and it turned out perfectly. Everyone had eaten the lattice off of the top of the pie by the end of the evening. The dough, however was VERY sticky, so I had to add quite a lot of extra flour to it before rolling it out. Also, I would recommend putting it in the freezer, rather than the fridge, and for at least an hour. This recipe's a keeper! Thanks!
