Crisp Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2008
Love it. Do roll the cookies very thin as directed if you want them nice and cirsp. I used a sugar cookie glaze to pour over them for a hard shiny finish.

No Fail Pie Crust III

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
I've used the shortening version of this recipe for years - it's perhaps a little more flaky but this butter version FAR surpasses it in flavor. You can fail with this recipe - in fact the "never fail" ones are the hardest pie crust recipes I've ever worked with. I think they are "never fail" because they never fail to taste great not because they are easy. The secret is to make sure you blend the butter well with the flour, get just the right amount of liquid and chill this dough for at least 30 minutes.

Balsamic and Rosemary Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2008
I'm not particularly fond of seafood but this was an excellent dish and a big hit at my dinner party. Very flavorful without overpowering the delicate flavor of the salmon. I marinated for at least 2 hours before grilling.

Cheesy Ranch Chex® Mix

While I love the original Chex Mix recipe - I love this one even more. Add mixed nuts/peanuts, prezels or whatever you want. Absolutely awesome.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff II

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
Love it. What a simple tasty dish! True comfort food. This does not taste like it has prepared soup in it. My only substitutions were to use beef broth instead of water and beef bouillon and to add a package of dry onion soup mix.

Minted Pea Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
I wasn't sure about this when I mixed it up. But after a couple of hours in the fridge it really was good and so easy to make. Next time I think I'll add some diced sharp cheddar cheese for some extra flavor and texture.

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
I wouldn't want to give up the regular kind of grilled cheese but this was very good and a nice change. I used a slice of provolone and shredded mozz. and regular marinara sauce. The dipping sauce really makes it.

Moist Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2007
I have mixed feelings about this cake. It is very, very moist. It gets a wonderful brown crust on the outside. Inside however, lacks flavor - I just think it needs more sugar and vanilla. The texture is moist but coarser than a box mix - just as a homemade cake should be. If you like a slightly sweet cake or you plan to use it in a recipe like pineapple upside down cake where the sugar sinks into it a bit this would be a great one to use. With only icing on top the contrast between very sweet and very bland is too much. It also rises a lot or I have very powerful baking powder - so watch how much batter you put into your pans. I had a pan that usually uses 2 cups of batter and it overflowed all over as did the cupcakes when filled slightly over 1/2 full.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
We love this and have made it several times. First time I made it I used cream cheese, second time - a combination of cream cheese and sour cream. While the cream cheese is fine, I think the tartness of the sour cream is far better. I do double the meat and quadruple the sauce because it tastes so great on those noodles and leftovers are wonderful.

Amish Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
Loved it! Great flavor. This just replaced my regular meatloaf recipe. Only minor criticism is that it did crumble quite a bit when you tried to slice it - not sure if I needed to use a more lean or less lean ground beef to help it slice better - or perhaps add an extra egg. But it was so good nobody cared.

Fruit Salad in Seconds

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I served this at a party recently. I made it mainly for the kids but it was more popular than the more sophisticated dishes. I served it with granola (put the granola in a separate bowl so it doesn't get soggy). I now make a batch every week to keep on hand for breakfasts (it only keeps a few days). I usually use strawberries, blueberrys, melon, mandarin oranges and pineapple. You can use any flavor of yogart but I really like strawberry or vanilla.

Double Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
Not so wild about this. Taste was decent, but the cream pretty much curdles (as it does in many recipes like this) so it's not a pretty dish to serve. I did add lots of fresh minced garlic and thinly sliced onions. I think it would be horribly bland without it because it was still pretty bland. Doubled the recipe and cooked 2 1/2 hours. Potato lovers will still like this recipe.

Chinese Cabbage Salad I

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
Made this for Easter - people had 2nds and 3rds. Only change I made was to substitute sunflower seeds for the cashews. I doubled the dressing but only used about 3/4ths of it. Awesome!

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
Love it. Easy and delicious. I make this regularly now. Butter and toast your french rolls to help keep them from getting soggy. Add a slice of provolone or swiss cheese and melt under the broiler for extra awesomeness!

Southern Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
I really liked this. The flavor is distinctly bbq but very subtle. I also think it's well worth the trouble to cut up the meat and brown it along with the onion and garlic - It definately adds more flavor. Serve on buttered/grilled rolls so the juices don't make the sandwich soggy. Definately want to add your favorite bbq sauce - but not too much to overpower the meat. This would be a wonderful inexpensive dish to serve to a crowd.

This is now my very favorite ham recipe. Very, very tender - moist with just a hint of sweetness. Thanks for sharing this!

Lemon Blueberry Drop Scones

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
I would probably go with 4 1/2 stars. My husband and daughter devoured these. I liked them but probably not as much as they did - perhaps I'm more used to the hard/smaller scones I've had in tea shops and these are lighter, fluffier and a bit more cake like. Love the tart/sweetness of the lemon glaze on these scones and lemon-blueberry flavor is always a winner. Very simple to make as well. Family is demanding I make these again.

Instant Pistachio Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
Very tasty. I did add some chopped pecans - which gives it a really nice crunch and contrast to the soft marshmallows. Walnuts would work fine as well.
