About this Cook
I am a mom of 2 young kids. I work at home and go to school full time. I try to use organic or natural items when possible and try to cook what's in season. I cook for only 4, so we have many options and can usually use leftovers the next day.
My favorite things to cook
No-brainers and soups/stews. I love slow cooking. Creative leftovers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On Christmas every year, my grandmother cooks the best German-style meal. ON Halloween, she always whips up a batch of potato pancakes (without onions) with all the topping options you could imagine. One day I hope to continue these traditional dishes for our future generations.
My cooking triumphs
I have recently (within the last 2 years) developed the ability to cook with a dutch oven. Using a dutch oven horrified me for a long time. Now that I know what I am doing, I LOVE it for campouts, picnics and at home. Also, I make the best slow-cooked pulled pork sandwiches. Unfortunately, I have never written down my recipe.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list.

Tasty Baked Meatballs
My family devoured these! The first time I made them, I followed the size that was indicated on the recipe. They were really yummy, but fell apart more than I would have liked. The second time around, I made them about half the size and they didn't fall apart and they also had a better texture - a little more crispy/solid and not too soft.

Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs
Great recipe, but we didn't care for the cut of meat (beef short ribs). Too fatty. We will try this recipe again with a different cut of meat and I am sure it will be a much more complimentary outcome for this very yummy recipe.

Curry Pumpkin Soup
I love the simplicity of this recipe, however I omit the sugar and add a few other spices like red pepper, chili powder and paprika as well as garlic salt to make it a savory soup. I still love the curry. I change out the vegetable broth with chicken broth. This is the best recipe for large groups. Instead of garnishing with pumpkin seeds, I like to change it out with either toasted walnuts, sautéed mushrooms or crumbled bacon (or all three!). It is great to offer your guests a choice of garnishes - especially if you have picky eaters, or ones on special diets.
