I followed the recipe as precisely as possible. I didn't have quite enough peanut butter, but it didn't seem to make a negative difference. I'm actually quite surprised at the subtle effects of both the peanut butter and the oatmeal. Instead of being major players in this cookie, they are in the background, simply enhancing the chocolate-chip-cookieness. It's a fantastic, traditional-tasting cookie, and I'm so glad to find an awesome recipe that does not use shortening.
