This beet salad works great as a side dish. It's garlicky, creamy, sweet, a little crunchy, and a little salty. Enjoy this authentic Russian recipe that everyone in my family always makes.

Summer is the time when we can forget about tinned fruit and canned preserves, and can finally enjoy the full, rich flavour of fresh fruits. This is a great fruity, juicy sponge cake made from lots of real apricots with a gentle hint of honey. Fabulous for sweetening up mid-summer tea time!

These cabbage rolls are stuffed with a mixture of beef, pork, and venison, then baked in a tomato sauce. I remember my grandmother making these on special occasions, usually when she had a lot of hands to help her! This is time consuming but most excellent, and the rolls freeze well for later consumption.

There 's a nice tangy bite to this hearty dark rye that still has a tender crumb, thanks to bread flour. Cocoa and coffee powders darken the loaf, and caraway and fennel seeds impart just a bit of licorice flavor.

Red cabbage and beets are slowly stewed with sauteed onions, caraway seeds, potatoes, carrots, celery, and dill weed. Cider vinegar, honey, and tomato puree provide additional depth of flavor to this recipe originally handed down from an elderly Turkish woman.
