Cincinnati's famous chili dates to 1922 when a Moravian immigrant created a dish with Middle Eastern spices including cloves, cinnamon, and allspice; along with chocolate, cayenne pepper, Worcestershire, and tomato sauce; and used the mixture to season ground beef. Served over spaghetti, the spicy dish with many variations has been a hit every since.

This is a recipe for homemade vegetable juice cocktail. You will need a pressure canner to do the whole batch, or scale it down to fewer servings, and drink within a couple of days. A great way to keep the taste of summer all year!

Tart juicy apples, sugar, a bit of flour for thickening, and a shake of cinnamon is all you need for this pie 's filling. The apples are sugared, floured and spiced, and then the mixture is piled into a pastry crust, dotted with butter and fitted with a top crust. An hour later, a beautiful, fragrant pie emerges from the oven.

Vinegar and Egg Crust

Submitted by: Ron Schmaeman
This is a very flaky and very tasty prize-winning pie crust that mixes up nicely, but it is a bit tricky to roll out. So if you have a pastry cloth and a rolling pin, you 'll need them. Or try rolling this dough between lightly-floured sheets of waxed paper. This recipe yields one double-crust pie.

This chili has just about everything. Well, the meat is burger-style crumbles, but there 's onion, garlic, hot sauce and oodles of tomatoes. Brown sugar, chili powder, vinegar, and kidney beans. And a few surprises like cinnamon, cocoa and allspice. Serve

Shaker Lemon Pie

Submitted by: Susan Greene
Home Town: Lexington, Kentucky, USA
Just three ingredients go into this tangy pie: lemons that are cut paper thin, sugar and four beaten eggs. The lemons are sugared and left to macerate overnight. When it 's time to assemble the pie, the eggs are combined with the sugared lemons to make the filling that is then poured in a prepared pie crust. Top it with another round of pastry, and the pie bakes until your kitchen smells heavenly.
