This is a quick and versatile recipe for a classic cake. Substitute a 32 ounce can of pears and devil's food cake mix for Pear Kuchen, or canned peaches and white cake mix for a peach version.

Bacon adds flavor to this potato salad with a vinegar-based dressing. This is my mother's recipe. Everyone, German or not, loves it. It is easy to double the recipe as well. I often bring it to potlucks, and we also have it at home on special occasions. There are usually no leftovers, but if there are, they don't last long!

Three layers of deliciousness are spooned into a baked pie shell: an almondy, chocolaty bottom layer, a vanilla pudding middle layer, and whipped topping sprinkled with grated chocolate to top things off. Slip into the fridge to chill for a few hours.

This recipe is known in America as almond crescents. I converted the measurements and translated this recipe that has been in my family for generations. It's a German Christmas cookie.
