I doctor up canned baked beans with apple and brown sugar to make them sticky and sweet. This is the easiest recipe to make.

What a great way to wake up pork and beans. Add a little sweet, a little spice, and a little onion, and then bake it with bacon over the top.

What do folks eat at a ball game? Hot dogs, of course! For our baseball theme party, I jazzed them up with an easy homemade barbecue sauce and a tangy relish that's become a family tradition. I make up a supply when our garden's booming with zucchini. -Sue Gronholz, Columbus, Wisconsin

Timeless baked beans are still favorites at picnics and casual gatherings, just like they were back in the '50s. For my theme party, I jazzed up canned pork and beans with bacon, green pepper and barbecue sauce. It's a simple recipe with down-home taste. -Judy Nix, Toccoa, Georgia

A wonderful old-fashioned baked bean flavor. This recipe has served by family for 29 years and originally came from my mother-in-law. It tastes great served with fresh cornbread or biscuits and honey. Although you need to allow time for soaking and simmering the beans, this recipe is still quite easy.

This is an old French-Canadian recipe. We use pure maple syrup, but it's the apple slices that make this my favorite recipe for baked beans.

Wonderful mixture of beans and sausage in a tomato sauce, slowly cooked and really tasty. Maureen had a Labor Day picnic for our block every year and always made these beans. Everyone always looked forward to having this sidedish with dinner.

My husband likes spicy dishes, and this is one of his favorites. He usually takes what's left to work for lunch the next day. We have a 4-year-old son, and this is the only way we can get him to even touch beans!

THESE savory beans were a specialty my dear grandma frequently prepared. When I even think of this dish, I can smell the enticing aroma that met us at the door when we went over to Grandma's for Sunday dinner. Every dish she made was a labor of love. -Marjorie Thompson, West Sacramento, California

I loved it when my mom made these classic beans...now I make them for my family. They have great old-fashioned flavor and are a real crowd-pleaser. I like to make them for potlucks, picnics or as part of a summertime dinner.
