Growing up, my Mom used to make barbecued beef in the crock pot and it always tasted so good. It's definitely comfort food for me. After I got out on my own, I was determined to make barbecue beef just like hers, so I tried lots of recipes and finally came up with one of my own. I was so pleased! I called her to tell her and she laughed. She had always just used a bottle of barbecue sauce! We still laugh about that and now I've had to give her my recipe! HA!

THIS WAS one of the first 'American' dishes I enjoyed in 1949 after arriving in the United States from New Zealand. It's now the most-used recipe in my recipe box! It's easy to prepare and so well liked. I've willingly shared it with my grandchildren and friends. -Mercia Miner, Canfield, Ohio

With only three ingredients, you can assemble these sandwiches in short order, our food staff confirms. Use store-bought barbecue sauce to flavor your leftover beef it you like. (This recipe works fine with deli roast beef, too.)

This is my family's favorite sandwich! We like it served with a nice fresh Caesar salad. Don't be intimidated by the extra sharp provolone's smell - it's really awesome when melted into the sandwich!
