Drenched Fig Boats

Submitted by: Gems
Living In: Bienne, Bern, Switzerland
Figs are stuffed with a bourbon and honey goat cheese, then dipped in nuts before arranging on a platter to serve. These are one of my favorite things to make. They are fun to make, look beautiful for dinner parties especially if arranged with grapes or mint leaves, are also wonderful as bite size snack and are dangerously tasty.

I found this recipe in a cookbook that came with the Comfort Range Stove my parents purchased years ago. It's my favorite from that old book, which I still have. The old ways are still the best ways, apparently, because last year this time-tested recipe won a contest sponsored by our local newspaper.

Stuffed Leg of Lamb with Balsamic-Fig-Basil Sauce

Submitted by: Barbara Estabrook
Living In: Rhinelander, Wisconsin, USA
Dried plums and currants tossed with salted, roasted almonds, creme de cassis, and mint is the stuffing for my rolled lamb roast. It's a very easy way to dress up a lamb roast during the holidays. The simple herb rub adds just the right amount of seasoning along with fresh garlic inserted into the top of the roast. My balsamic basil fig sauce creation drizzled over the sliced lamb is the perfect finishing touch and extremely flavorful thanks to the fresh basil.

Brie cheese smothered with fresh figs cooked with brown sugar, vanilla, and almonds, then baked until almost melted.
