Plenty of cranberries are grown in this area, so the tart and tangy fruit finds its way into my cooking quite often. This luscious pie is one I regularly prepare for our many holiday get-togethers.

There 's flour, sugar and eggs in this cranberry-walnut filling, so it bakes up beautifully without a pie crust. It 's flavored with a bit of almond extract and is the perfect mate for a scoop of vanilla or rum raisin ice cream.

To make this slightly tart, crunchy pie, apples and cranberries are tumbled au natural into a waiting crust, and just a bit of tapioca is added to absorb the juices. Then it 's topped with a brown sugar and butter streusel, and baked until the flavors and juices have mingled perfectly.

This is a wonderful twist on the traditional apple pie - great for fall! It calls for Pippin apples, but I usually use a combination of several kinds. Occasionally I add a bit of cinnamon, too!
