Sweet, red strawberries combined with pretty, tart blueberries, all layered atop a creamy vanilla pudding...that makes a red-white-and-blue pie that my grandmother would serve every Fourth of July!

Blackberry and Blueberry Pie

A wonderful taste combination, this terrific pie can be made in the summer with fresh berries and in the winter with frozen ones. The berries are mixed with sugar, flour and cinnamon, spooned into a waiting crust, and sprinkled with lemon juice and dotted with butter. And then on goes the top crust and it 's ready for the oven.

This recipe makes two amazing pies that freeze perfectly. Move over Sara Lee. Pecans are pressed into a pie shell and baked. Then sliced bananas are put in, covered with a fabulous cream cheese mixture, and topped with blueberry pie filling.

Who would have thought? Blueberries and cherries in the same pie. But they 're divine together. You 'll have to pit the cherries, but it should be a labor of love. The berries are sugared, dusted with flour and cinnamon, and dotted with butter. The oven takes care of the rest.

Well over 100 years old, this recipe has been part of my family forever. My Grandmother, born in the 1880's taught it to us, and who taught it to her, I have no clue. It turns out to be a very large pie with a layer of custard, topped with a layer of blueberries, and then a layer of meringue. If you like blueberries, its a keeper. My Grandma always said that you could make a smaller pie by using a pint of blueberries, but we have never tested that theory.

If you have to feed a crowd, and they happen to love cheesecake, then this is the recipe for you. It bakes up in a large 9x13-inch pan and is easy to make. Cherry pie filling may be substituted for blueberry, or use both!

There is nothing to beat a fresh blueberry pie. It doesn 't need much: sugar, a bit of cornstarch to thicken all the nice juices and cinnamon. It 's perfect with fresh berries, but still mighty fine with frozen ones.

Given to me by a friend many years ago. One quart of sweetened fresh blueberries can be used in place of canned blueberries.
