'Fall is the perfect time for making apple crisp because that's when the fruit is plentiful,' notes Debby Stutler of New Milton, West Virginia. 'I sometimes use two kinds of tart apples to make this old-fashioned dessert extra special-or add a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.'

I devised this recipe when I was trying to use up that leftover homemade cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving! You could probably also use canned whole cranberry sauce for this recipe.

I FOUND this recipe soon after I was married 47 years ago. It uses few ingredients, which are usually on hand, and takes little time to put together. It's a favorite of ours during fall and winter, when apples are at their best. -Shirley Leister, West Chester, Pennsylvania
