A great way to start your Italian meal! I usually serve it with crusty bread slices that have been toasted in the oven until crisp for dipping into the marinade. Keeps for a week in the refrigerator and the longer it stands the better it gets!

I based this recipe on one from a famous Virginia colonial tavern, but I've had much better success with this one than the one published in their cookbook. It's great for parties, picnics, or potlucks. It will also freeze well (uncooked) for quick prep anytime!

A classic little hors d 'oeuvres, these crunchy rounds rely on rye bread for their sturdy base; a cream cheese/blue cheese spread holds it all together.

This is an easy gourmet appetizer. I've brought this to several parties and it is always a hit! I often add some chopped green olives to the olive mixture and a little more balsamic. Goat cheese may also be used in place of the cream cheese. Serve with slices of French bread or crackers.

Minced garlic and pungent Kalamata olives await discovery beneath the golden crust. Your food processor makes this an easier recipe, doing some of the mixing and kneading for you.

An easy to make great tasting combination of blue cheese and green olives. Once you start eating this you won't stop! I like to spread it on thin wheat crackers.

These puff pastry wrapped olives are our family's favorite holiday appetizer. We make them with a variety of olives - pimento stuffed green, plump kalamata, Provencal. You can make these ahead, and freeze. Another advantage: the kids like to make them and eat them.

Along with a refreshing beverage, I served these attractive hors d'oeuvres to guests at my Garden Party. The crisp cucumbers on these easy-to-fix finger sandwiches get their zip from being marinated for a short time. --Sara Laker Loda, Illinois
