Absolutely Devine! I made a few tweaks to pump up the flavor... Switched out the milk for buttermilk, used half butter half margarine, also added 1/2 tbls of baking soda. Don't over mix! Then let dough sit for about 15mins in a bowl under a warm towel. Brushed them with egg and buttermilk wash and done, AMAZING melt in your mouth fluffy delicious biscuits!

These were pretty good! Not very flaky, but need more butter for that. Made them with butter instead of shortening because I didn't have any on hand - no problem. They still tasted great with breakfast (made biscuits n' gravy) and my roommate ate the rest the next day.

Love biscuits, but had never made any. This recipe was easy, biscuits are great. I followed a little advice from other reviewers on further trials. change 1 Tbs baking powder to 2 tsp + 1/2 tsp baking soda. I also changed the shortening to lard. Also, before and after baking brush melted butter on top.

You can't get biscuits any better than this. I have been trying for years to find a good biscuit recipe, and I am no longer looking. Light and tasty. The only thing I do differently is use buttermilk instead of regular milk, but these are excellent as written. Thank you, John, for posting.

Amazing!!!! I have been searching for a biscuit like this for quite some time now. Many failures later have produced not one quality keeper. This is especially sad because I am a former Culinary Arts major ;-( The days of being teased by my Southern In-laws, about my biscuits, are over. This recipe is a keeper and thank you so much for passing on this treasure! I hold "from scratch" cooking near and dear to my heart.

This is such a terrible recipe. I don't understand why it can have such a high rating. It has such a strong taste of baking soda that I couldn't even swallow it. Maybe others did not add so much baking soda? This is one of the worst recipe I have ever found on here. I followed the recipe just as it is and the dough is so wet that I could not put them together , in the end I added much more flour and knead it too much till it has glutenized. Total failure!!!!!

These are by far the best and easiest biscuits you will ever make. Directions and ingredients are spot on. The only change I make and it is totally my choice if I have it is instead of using shortening I will use left over bacon grease that I keep stored in my fridge. It adds a ton of amazing flavor!
