Just made this up and it tasted delicious!! If you add the extra ingredients from www.MomsFreeGroceries.net it will give it extra flavor and make it taste 200% better!! Definentely have to add this to my weekly cook book

Why would you pour the mixture over the lattice? It makes no sense and ruined my pie.

I read the recipe and wasn't very impressed, but I always try to follow recipe ingredients closely the first time. I was blown away with this one! I thought I would miss the cinnamon and spices, but not at all. The only change I made was in the instructions and that was by accident - I wasn't paying close attention; I completely assembled the pie with the lattice top crust, before starting the caramel sauce. This pie is AMAZING! Even thought others have suggested flavorings and spices, you must try this recipe with the original ingredients only. THANK YOU GRANDMA OPLE!!!

Recipe is great but made the following changes. 1 I don't know how anyone could ever get 8 apples into this, I used 4.5 spiral sliced apples and it was nearly too much. 2 I used a frozen deep dish crust and a second crust for the topping, did not have time for the basket weave, 3 I poured the spice/syrup mixture over the apples before putting on the top, I did reserve some of the mix to brush on the top but next time I will just use egg white, the mixture on the top was a little much. Overall it was a good pie and I would make it again.

This is by far the best apple pie I have ever tasted.!! Thank You for your Grandma's wonderful recipe. I followed this recipe exactly except for sprinkling some cinnamon on the apples. This is just amazingly delicious.

THE BEST APPLE PIE RECIPE!! I have made several recipes and I am always unhappy with how runny the filling is, but this is perfectly gooey every time. I use 5 granny smith and 5 pink lady apples, and I do add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. I also am not great with the lattice crust so I mix the apples with all of the filling and use my regular crust, brush it with milk and sprinkle with about 2 tbls sugar in the raw, baking at 350° the whole time. Even my very picky mother finally admitted it is better than her apple pie ;-)

Great recipe. If your butter sugar mixture clumps you have cooked it too long and if your mixture come out too runny you didn't cook it long enough. Mine was perfect.
