I used half&half instead of milk (because I wanted to use some up), also added blueberries (increased cooking time) . I also left the dough in a sort of round and cut them into 6-8 even pieces then baked whole. Came out moist and delicious! Will try with more traditional currants next time! Thanks for the recipe!

Amazingly wonderful! I was so nervous about mixing it to much but I ended up mixing it just the right amount, they were eaten within a few hours. I used raisins and they were amazing!

These are the best. I can't keep them around long enough. I even reduced the butter in half. They are still the BEST!

Good scones, except when they went into the oven, they flattened out with pancakes! LOL They were still delicious, but not like the British scones I've had. These scones were sweeter, lighter, and more like cake. I didn't use currants or raisins though. Thanks for the recipe anyway! :)

I thought these were good. True, not too sweet but scones aren't. I put blueberries in mine and sprinkled with sugar. The dough was very sticky so you need to flour your hands well! Mine stayed soft the next day because I stored them in a ziplock bag. They weren't as good as the first day though! Just stop mixing as soon as the flour mixture is absorbed into the liquid and you'll be fine!

It's all in the texture and what you add to the final dough- maybe some mixed berries and white chocolate chunks! And after eggwashing the tops prior to baking try sprinkling a generous amount of coarse sugar. Or if you want to go savory, try some herbs and small cubes of a nice cheese- say chopped chives, bit of basil and oregano and chunks of gouda or edam. Instead of the sugar topping obviously something like some shredded cheese or sesame seeds would be more appropriate.

Scones from Britain are rather more dense. I cut down the baking powder from 4 to 3 teaspoons, and they still came out rather fluffy. I suspect that more butter (or perhaps shortening) and less leavening is required for an authentic British scone. I also molded these like a British scone in that I baked them as one large round that I cut into 8 wedges (but did not separate!) using a bread knife before baking. Requires a longer baking time because surface area is much larger. Otherwise, they were very tasty when made with currants.

While these tasted great, they came out completely flat and with the wrong consistency. I'm a good cook and certainly have no problem following a recipe, but these did NOT work well. I wish I had a suggestion for how to improve them, but I really haven't the slightest idea what went wrong.

I am *so* confused right now. I read many reviews raving about how fantastic this recipe was and I was excited to try it today. There was only one review I had seen which called the scones "flavorless," Unfortunately, after making the scones, I now agree with the negative review. While the scones had a nice texture, they did not have much flavor. I even made sure not to overmix the dough. Oh well, better luck next time...

Wow! I just tried this recipe based on the rave reviews and it is by far the best scone recipe I have EVER had! (and I'm not just saying that because I baked them. :) ).... Restaurant or home, these are the best I've tasted. And TRUST me. I've had many. At tea shops and at home. I've tried TONS of recipes and this IS the best. This recipe is amazing! It is foolproof unless? perhaps you are a really inexperienced baker? These were AWESOME! :)

I am not a big scone fan, but I randomly decided to make them today... Wow, I am surprised. I made some with just what is in the recipe, and they taste great! I also added to part of the dough vanilla, apple, and cinnamon. They are really good! Fluffy, and sweet!

I have never made scones before but they turned out perfect. I used a tablespoon of baking powder after reading that they were too airy. I also didn't have enough sour cream so I used plain yogurt. I was wondering if anyone had any different ideas about what to put in them?
