Definitely the best recipe I've used. I did make a few alterations, as suggested by others. I reduced the sugar to about a 1/3 cup, doubled the cornstarch to make it a little thicker, and added celery seed. This made it wonderful!

I have made this potato salad several times now and I never have any leftovers! Its my familys new favorite salad, people go crazy for it at every church function, family reunion, barbecue or just plain supper I make it for! Definatly worth the time to make! I did replace onions with scallions and added carrots, and out of necessity I used regular whole milk, but It is easily the best potato salad I have ever tasted! My only tips to anyone making it is not to worry if the dressing smells a little odd when cooking it and to make sure everything has several hours to sit in the fridge before serving. Thanks for sharing this precious recipe! God bless!

great potato salad! I changed the following: replaced onion for 3 stalks green onion, tripled the cornstarch, halved the sugar, added 1 tsp. celery seed, and did 1/2 apple cider vinegar/1/2 white vinegar, from people's suggestions. i don't think this is too sweet at ALL. if you half the sugar, its PERFECT. i will definitely make again.

Loved it, a little too sweet so maybe cutting down on the sugar. I added pickles which someone else suggested--I liked the pickles, my daughter picked them out. I also used red potatoes. This was my first potato salad and it was a hit!

This took a while to put all together, but it was worth it. Followed the advice of some of the people here...dropped the sugar to 1/3 cup, upped the corn startch to 2 tsp. Added some Bacon, and some Serrano chillis as well that I deseeded and diced, also added relish, and celery seeds. Also used red potatoes instead. Flat out best potato salad that I have ever tried (and the first one I had ever tried making!). Will be made again, and again, and again!

I thought this recipe was too sweet for potatoes salad, although my family did keep coming back over the next couple of days and snacking on it until it was gone. I usually serve potatoes salad when we are having a BBQ and the other food is rich and sweet, so therefore the potatoes salad needs to be not so sweet. In my family someone always brings the bean salad to a gathering, this is a recipe famous to my family and consist of red beans, celery, celery salt, onion, sweet pickle relish or sweet jerkins cut up, and boiled egg just to name a few ingredients. All tied together with mayo, a little sugar, and either vinegar or some of the juice from the sweet pickle’s. My point is, I think the egg mixture from the potatoes recipe would work well with the bean salad recipe. The next time I make bean salad I am going to use this mixture and try it out on the family.

I have made this twice and it was a hit both times. I read the other reviews and reduce the sugar to a couple of tablespoons because I like tangy potato salad, but you can adjust it to your own taste. Also I thought it looked kind of plain so I added 1/2 each of green, red, and yellow or orange bell peppers. I chopped them finely and save a small amount back (about 1.5 tablespoons) to sprinkle over the top for garnish with the hard boiled egg slices and it looked and tasted great. This is now my first and in almost all cases only (with the changes) potato salad recipe. Thanks KL for sharing.

Too much sauce and WAY too sweet....If I make it again I will probably omit the sugar and use 9 or 10 potatos. I also felt like it needed some paprika.

Too sweet. After reading other reviews, I just gradually added in the dressing, and it was still a little overpowering. It tastes exactly like the stuff you can buy at the store, and for a couple of hours of prep, I was expecting something a little more unique.

Love this recipe. After making it the first time, got to thinking the sauce would probably be good for macaroni salad also. When I tried it, I used 1# of elbow macaroni, it tasted good, but there were too many noodles, they sort of sucked the sauce right up. Will be using this recipe again and again, no changes for potato salad, with less macaronis for mac salad.

This was a great tasting recipe. I made it as the recipe called, and found that there was too much sauce at the end. I made this for a part which had 15 people attending, at the end of the night there was no salad left, and lots of people asking for the recipe.

This was excellent! I added a little crumbled bacon, some chopped up pickles, Worcestershire sauce, and dill weed. I don't think any of these ingredients were strictly necessary, but I think they helped.

Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. My modifications based on personal taste are as follows: 2 tsp. corn starch, cut sugar to 1/4 cup, add 1 cup diced sweet gherkins and 2 dashes of dill weed into the dressing as it cooks. It's the best!

This was not as big of a hit as expected. A much sweeter recipe than I prefer for potato salad. I added extra hard boiled eggs. There was too much dressing.

Only my second attempt at making potato salad, trying to mimic my mom's recipe. It wasn't spot on, but it was pretty good! The potatoes were cooked perfect at about 25 minutes. The dressing was creamy and flavorful. I'll make this again!
