This sauce has EXCELLENT consistency and the fennel is a great flavour additive...I used fresh herbs of parsley and basil as well. Will keep this one for sure.

I made this the other night and it was a hit. It is very close to my recipe I have used for years. The only thing I did different was after meat, onion, and garlic were browned, I transfered to slow cooker and let it cook on low about 6 hours. Thanks for the recipe.

10 stars, awesome. Instead of 28oz can tomatoes, I used 1 large ball jar of tomatoes my mother canned over the summer, put them in the blender, fresh basil, only 1/2 lb sausage and 1 lb hamburger, cooked meat, onion and garlic together: added rest of ingred. to crock pot and added meat mixture, low 5 hours awesome, thanks

This has become my staple pasta sauce. My family loves it! The only change I make is two use only ground meat (no sausage) and substitute one can of roasted garlic tomato paste in place of one of the plain pastes. It just gives a little more of a garlic kick.

Used this recipe the first time, was very good and thick. Added a pepper & garlic, was great! Will fix this again.

I was going to just use the meat sauce recipe from my favorite lasagna but thought I'd look around and see what's out here. What do I pull up? The sauce recipe from my favorite lasagna! This sauce is great as is, and the best part is, you can tweak it a bit as you like. add more garlic, less sugar, spicy sausage,...whatever and the end product is always delicious. I personally like a thick sauce so I omit 1/2 of the tomato sauce this recipe calls for, still delicous! Try it you will love it.

This is a very good, easy way to make homemade pasta sauce. I doctor it by adding fresh basil and oregano, mushrooms, green pepper, and brown sugar. I also squeeze the meat out of the italian sausage casings instead of slicing and leave some nice big chunks in there. Very Yummy!

Very good sauce... Only substitutions I made: red wine in place of the water - and used Sweet Italian "turkey" sausage instead of pork sausage. Next time I will try this sauce with the lasagna recipe!

LOVE this sauce! It's absolutely amazing and the only sauce recipe I use now. The only slight changes I made were to substitute red wine for the water and brown sugar for the white. I'll usually use turkey sausage instead of pork, but both are delicious. After browning the onions, garlic, and meats, I'll throw everything into a slow cooker and let it cook all day. By dinner time, the house smells wonderful and it tastes like you've spent hours over a hot stove.

This was bland and sweet - not as savory as I'd hoped - I can use it as a base and just mess with it.

I made this sauce tonight (a double batch since the reviews were so glowing) and I thank you for getting me out of the "doctored up" jarred sauce rut! Being me, of course I improvised a bit: Hot Italian Sausage, Deer ground meat, porta- bellas, and Chianti instead of water... But that's what makes the recipe so great --the basics are so good you can feel free to adapt it to your own tastes!!!

No need to buy sauce in a jar anymore, this stuff is perfect. We made the sauce "as is" and put it into the crockpot on low for about 5 hours. Thanks!
