THIS IS A WONDERFUL PASTA SAUCE! I used 5 lbs seeded and skinned fresh garden tomatoes/juices to replace the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water. Double the recipe but only used 1 lb Italian sausage, 1 lb ground beef, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 T of fresh basil from the garden, 1/2 tsp fennel seeds, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, and 1/2 tsp salt. Also, I used garden onions (2 small ones) and minced garden garlic. ***** MADE 5 QUARTS ***** Next times, I would like to make 2 varieties of this recipe by making a zero meat sauce. Also, I would like to use this recipe for pasta sauce with meatballs and not have ground beef in the sauce.
